“All artists are a little bit crazy!” “Artists are different.”
Over the years, I’ve chuckled when someone looked at my whimsical works and noted the difference in our personalities.
Yes, artists are programmed differently, and most of us rejoice that every waking moment is a gift! Whether soaking in a sun-drenched street scene or admiring an alignment of overhead pelicans or noting subtle color differences in a landscape, an artist’s eyes never rest!
When living in Costa Rica, I lived immersed in nature and marveled at the beauty that surrounded me. I was also intrigued that most of the handmade products I bought were made in Ecuador. Hammocks, pottery, linens, masks – Ecuador, Ecuador, Ecuador. From my first exploratory visit, Ecuador stole my heart! I divided my time between Ecuador and Central America and eventually weaned full time to Ecuador. There have been good times, and there have been bad – Destructive tides, the evolution of ‘Casa Loca,’ Dengue and Chikungunya epidemics, light-pole painting competitions, impromptu painting sessions, visits to the oldest hacienda in the country, a wedding on the equator, shrimp harvests, floor-painting memories. The April 16/2016 7.8 earthquake upturned the coastal area, and with a heavy heart I watched the ‘Casa Loca’ chapter come to an end.
Most of my posts feature light-hearted stories, though at times I poke and prod at much-more serious topics. Deforestation and continued abuse of our planet’s natural resources remind me to speak up for those who have no voice. Our planet is sick, and we are the ‘predator’ responsible; it’s time for all of us to remember that the other species deserve the right to thrive in their natural ecosystems.
This site will give you a glimpse into the life of the zeebra. Hopefully you’ll emerge with a lighter heart!

Artists are only a “little bit crazy”?
ja ja! i’ve been on a painting binge today, and for sure i’m more than a little bit crazy today! it’s been a fun day of painting a deck overlooking the river! z
Locos r us
and proud to be one!!!! That motto would make a fun t-shirt!
We may be crazy but it gives us good stories to tell…

i am soo sorry that i have not replied to this sweet offer, and you’ll probably laugh to know that there’s no mail delivery in my area! a friend sent a christmas card last year and asked in march, ‘did you get your christmas card?’ ha, the closest post office is an hour’s drive away, and i truly don’t think that option is available here.
anyway, thank you so much for your kind offer, and i always love seeingyour icon/gravatar and reading your posts. without much internet, i dog paddle along when possible. one day i will be back on a more regular basis, but for now i’ll continue w/life off the main grid…
Unique art.Cheers.Jalal
The artwork you’re posing with is positively brilliant! You standing there, smiling alongside your art makes the association even more uplifting.
Thanks again for sharing your wonderful talent and work.
AnnMarie
Hi AnnMarie! I’m so very sorry that this beautiful comment went unanswered for so long. You have an equally-wonderful smile that is surely infectious around others. Thanks for being you! Lisa/Z
Never a worry, Lisa.
I appreciate you kind words and you have a great day.
annmarie:)
Maybe artists just seem crazy because their sanity is too bright for typical sleepy eyes.
Love that tree. Or is it a river? Or lava flowing into the ocean? Or … never mind.
Good to see you in the picture, too.
Forgive me for being quite tardy on answering your great comment! You definitely have the gift of imagination and are surely able to make others laugh – or open their eyes to they learn to see!
Forgiven! That’s easy because there was no offense. I knew somebody who said forgiveness is only for unforgivable things. We got divorced.
Congratulations! Writewireless has nominated you for the Sunshine Award! Please see http://writewireless.wordpress.com/2014/05/02/thanks-for-the-sunshine-award-nomination/ for instructions. Keep up the good work!
I totally agree….always looking and observing! 🙂 I think it is a skill to learn. To become good a observing takes time to master. Inspiration makes learning that skill fun.
I love the ciebo print! How can I get one? Please let me know.

I’ve been here before. I think you’ve visited my blog before. It’s all very familiar. I love your whimsical art. And I do agree – an artist’s eyes never rest. Colour, shapes, texture – always drawing me in.
Thanks for following our blog. I hope you enjoy the stories of our journey, both inner and outer.
Happy painting and photographing
Alison
I love your vibrant and energized work – it is also “clean” to me – for whatever that means. 🙂
and I agree:
“and most of us rejoice that every waking moment is a gift!”
peace!
Hey Lisa! Park and I Would love to see you while you are here. I have the same number. My email is now lindaloub2@dtcweb.net.
Lovely design, very original! I loved it: all artists are a bit crazy, and different 🙂
One word…spectacular!
Well, yes, I have to agree that artists, including myself, have an abstract view of the world and that often reflects in how we live our life. I paint also but consider myself to be a writer first. If we weren’t a little “crazy” we couldn’t be artists…that creativity comes from a place entirely different from the “norm”.Thanks for visiting and following my blog…love your photos and stories about your travels!
thanks for your comment; i pondered the state i am in while writing vs the one i reach while painting. in painting, i sort of go to sleep, an i am much more intuitive during and after sessions of painting. writing opens a totally-different door, and my mind is engaged in a different task that blocks out those subtle instincts.
you have so much knowledge and experience that you share freely – thank you! lisa/z
Artists are artists, they are ineffable. 🙂
With apologies for the intrusion, but I thought, since you were kind enough to leaves a Like/Comment on a relevant post, that you might like an opportunity to vote on the issues raised by recent WordPress changes. There is an overall objective and Voting starts here.

Being an artist myself, a painter with Grapheme Synesthesia, I feel fascinated. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve been wondering where you’d gotten to and now I find I’ve become unsubscribed to your blog! Grrrrr! Heading of to take care of that now and hoping all is going well for you.
janet
hey amiga; yes, that happens a lot w/my subscriptions as well. i sometimes think that these sensitive keyboards combined with the location and ease of the ‘subscribe/unsubscribe’ button might be the reason it happens. it’s always great to see you here – makes me want to bolt to the nearest pasture and hijack a horse!
Glad I’m back to this wonderful place you created my super talented fellow loco artist. I look forward to reading post and seeing the eye candy. You friend in Cuba and Costa Rica.
Ja! Locos R Us — Am always proud to share the same artist branch on the tree of Life! I was telling Barb today about the tsunami and your dream, and your urging to ‘go to high ground if you feel an earthquake…’
darn if a big quake didn’t strike in Chile a few hours after our conversation. We’re under a tsunami watch but not a big risk.. but we’re about 6 k inland tonight….
Yours is one of the first blogs I followed when I began writing nearly four years ago and it’s still refreshingly original and visually stunning so, if you are interested in receiving such things, please accept this nomination for the dedicated blogger award…

you are so kind and genuine, and i am not sure if/when i will recriprocate with a worthy response, but i will try! I can surely slip the ‘hat tip’ back to you via a timeout post… thanks for your kind words!
My pleasure.
Lisa, wasn’t sure where to post, but was concerned about the earthquake. Wishes your way for the safety of you and your community!
thank you so much.. news is bleak, and i am worried about those who are enduring the power outages, phone outages, el nino rains, and perhaps no where to call home.. very little news comes from the area.. only 2nd and 3rd hand reports… love, lisa
Monitoring the news here in the states and it does look like some areas were hit badly…loss of life and people trapped in rubble. So sorry to see it happen. Here on the news they also warn that the California coast is past due for a big one. Hate to think!! I am glad you are ok and pray for the ones who are suffering and grieving.
Thank you so much, and yes, that San Andreas Fault does like to run its fingers through the ground. I hope that these earthquakes from thepast few weeks have relieved pressure from the entire planet…
True good way to think of it.
I spent a whole summer doing research in Costa Rica, and like you I marveled at the beauty and sense of place. I never noticed that things were being made in Ecuador though. I guess I did not pay enough attention. I am getting really concerned with the intensity and damage of these quakes and hurricanes. Seems to be happening more.
You are right to be concerned, and I think that anyone who is in strong touch/connection with Mother Earth is feeling that — and we are a bit of a loss of what to do… Thank you for this! hey, and you’re always welcome to come visit! youd love the cloud forest fauna and flora!
Yes, it is true that an artist’s eye never rests. And that is a gift. How much of life would be passed by unnoticed if the eyes were given a rest! I too, would love to explore Central and South America some day!
Lisa!!! A los tiempitos . . . y feliz año! Any chance you can e’mail me?
si! email has been sent! happy new year to you as well!

Ha! Your little transplants are going to thrive and be amazing new trees!
Love your amazing and beautiful artwork and happy to hear so much positive feedback on Ecuador. In considering alternative locations to live it was near the top of my list and hearing first hand remarks concerning it makes it all that more inviting.
enjoy a peaceful week
Thank you for your kind words. Ecuador is a beautiful and diverse country; after giving a quick check to your website, I suspect that you would find great comfort in this country. There is so much that I don’t write about – never enough time, but there is an energy here that is almost strong enough to physically touch – and sensitive ones often swap observations about those powerful energies.
Nice photo ❤ ❤ ❤
Stunning artwork, Lisa!
I couldn’t find your contact info here. How can I get in touch with you? My e-mail address is nadine@nadinetomlinson.com. Please confirm yours.
Hi Nadine! Thanks for your interest; I sent an email. Another site for my art is LisaBrunettiArt.wordpress.com
Thank you for being such a good international friend. Your posts bless me every day.
Lisa are you originally from Mississippi & did you live in Jonesville, LA many years ago?
Artists tend to get lost.
At least, some people tend to think that artists are lost.
Often not paying attention to where they are in the physical world, the mind of an artist is often carried away by the sight of a bird, a beautiful flower, an interesting shadow, a passing cloud….
Some say artists are not ‘normal’ because they are so involved in the journey, that they don’t necessarily care about the distance between here and there. My grandson told me that normal is boring. I suppose so. If I felt compelled to try and be exactly like everyone else around me, I wouldn’t like it at all. Claustrophobia.

What a wonderful surprise to find your comment! Your grandson sounds like a very-observant person, most likely influenced by you and your own great and original voice! Thank you so much; your comment arrived with great timing, as today has presented some challenges and disappointments… Am sending the smile back in your direction! Thanks again!
I absolutely love this painting! It’s a gorgeous interpretation of the energy and “soul” of a magical tree. Stunning!
Yes indeed, as per previous comment. Also like the vitality and energy to be seen in YOU,Lisa!
Love your photographs, Lisa, but my favorite is the one of you in the window, pencil poised, you have a blank page to fill.
You are a joy, and are responsible for the smile on my face at this moment! Thank you!
I have been in a dead zone with everything lately, slowly poking my head out of the hole like a groundhog and asking: Is the weather fine? It is!
Congratulations on the showing at the Museo. I’m so happy for you! ❤
Regarding your smile: You’re welcome!
Love the slideshow. Favorites: Playa San Miguel, Quinoa Fields, and above all, the contemplative you at the window. But then I’m sure everybody loves that one most.
Dear Lisa, Love your new slide show here on your main page my friend, I thought it about time I came over to catch up with all you have been doing over the last few weeks..
Sending thoughts, and loved the pictures in the slide show.
This is so true, Lisa! I took a “break” from actively painting when my four kids were all young, and when I started back up, it felt like a part of my brain that had gone to sleep was waking up! Everywhere I went, colors and shapes jumped out like they were electric. I was so happy that my brain was waking up to beauty again. I feel very blessed to be an artist – to be allowed to think differently!
I like your blog,🧡 … Bravo 👍

Hi! I happened on your site and am wondering where you are? It seems you left your remote location. We are still in Manga, Las Olas near where the gallery was. If you’re ever in town would love to have a coffee with you.
Hi Sharon! It will be great to see you as well, and whenever my path takes me to Manta, I’ll try to give you warning!
