The theme for the WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge is “Movement.”

He sails through the air with the greatest of ease! (Costa Rica Howler Monkey)
The sound of howler monkeys crashing through the treetops will get anyone’s attention! To see them soaring from branch to branch fills one with a childlike glee! Living immersed in nature, I witness sudden explosive glimpses of movement as well as subtle ones. Here are samples of movement that reflect my life in Latin America. Enjoy the pictorial journey! Z

For every monkey that soars through the trees, there’s a snake that creeps through the foliage with stealth!

And there are subtle movements of a butterfly…

The destructive power of waves at high tide – Playa San Miguel, Costa Rica

Playa San Miguel lost many Palm Trees to these powerful waves.

The Power and Movement of Water

The one that almost got me (To the children’s delight!)

Each day more people came to watch the waves at high tide.

The parents were relaxed, but I was concerned for the children’s safety.

How’s this for movement?!!! Playa San Miguel, Costa Rica Christmas-Day Flips!

Playa Rosada Nicaragua – (Can Lisa capture the splashes without getting soaked?)

Ka-BOOM! (Maybe I should come back later?)

Playa Rosada, Nicaragua – A safe distance from the waves! Ka-BOOM!

How’s this for conserving fuel?! (Limon Nicaragua)

Future Stars! (San Juan Del Sur Nicaragua)

This bus was definitely moving! (Nicaragua)

oh I loved these pictures lisa. I am so glad I get to read these posts and see your life through these. thanks so much for sharing them. I loved K-Boom!! I have some great howler monkey pictures i took at sunset…one night. I show you some time. not as close up as yours…but got the sunset and the monkeys in the cortez amarillo tree outside our house.
ciao bella
Hey Gwen! The photos sound lovely, especially if the Cortez Amarill was drenched in yellow blossoms! Even sin flores, with the sunset, I am sure they’re stunning! I’m glad you enjoyed the photo challenge. I’m a bit scared to see how many more palms are gone from the beach. Each one that’s lost- hurts a bit. Z
hi Lisa,
I like the free ride
supported by a patient animal:
avoiding to buy expensive fuel!
Thank you! I’m delighted that you enjoyed the images! z
Seems like paradise! Beautiful images and perfect for the challenge
Thank you so much for your comment! You’re right; water certainly illustrates the theme of movement! It’s nice to be able to reach back and share photos that have been patiently waiting for attention! Z
Lisa, your photographs are amazing!
Viewing the ones of the wild surf on the beach brought back some memories…
The waves were coming in with force and the undertow was extremely powerful. I felt a wave hit my back, knocking me into the surf, and the surging incoming wave was pushing me to the shore while the undercurrent was pulling me out to sea. In effect, rolling me in place. I was unable to gain a foothold and beginning to panic when suddenly the water just disappeared… my legs were buried in the sand, my shorts, underwear and bra were loaded with POUNDS of sand, and I couldn’t stand up. I was screaming for my friend Andrea to come and help me and she was laughing at me. She didn’t understand what was going on.
I started screaming, “I CAN’T GET UP!” just as another wave hit. Then she and her mother ran in and managed to pull me to safety.
I understand your concern. ~ Lynda
Wow! I totally understand how a tranquil and idyllic moment can suddenly turn dangerous.
Your story made me think of this post: https://playamart.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/the-undertow/#more-828
Those undertows are powerful, and I’m glad your friends realized that you needed help.
Thank you for sharing,
Lisa

These are wonderful movement shots!
Muchas Gracias! z
Each photo takes us back to a place of joy and excitement. The powerful , fun waves reminds us of how wonderful it is to be in the Tropics and of being in places that makes you believe that dreams and magic happens in real life.
Yes, and they make us feel alive and a part of this beautiful planet! Thanks! Z
