A “ramada” project is underway at the riverhouse, and I have been observing every move like an inquisitive child. I retrieve each tiny fragment of bamboo that’s discarded and add to the incubation corner for rainy day projects!
There have been several opportunities for images for the silhouette theme for the WordPress weekly Photo Challenge, so with no spare time for things cyber, I present the images then return to the project!
Enjoy! Z
(What a job!)
(Would you like to meet the crew?)
More soon!

I’ve been waiting patiently for your creative post on silhouettes and you didn’t disappoint. Canya walking…how positively ingenious. I love the angles. Great job, Z. Now, I want to meet your crew. I’m working on a post of our construction workers. We’re adding on to our little guest house. Maybe it can be my studio…or not. I need to post my magic marker Mola picture for you. Although, you inspired me to create…I went a little wild with it. It reminds me of a Mola on steroids. hahaha.

a mola on steroids! how fun! we’re taking a lunch break, and i’m about to take the mini burro laptop down and show the workers this post!
will be back tonight, power and internet willing!

Great photos of this weeks theme Silhouette. 😉

thanks! i’ve realized that the best silhouette images are those that are impromptu. when i tried to get good images this morning, they were too clear/too much color and detail! maybe silhouettes are best taken in low light?

Love these silhouettes. That sky certainly does look stormy.

thanks!
we’re at the end of the dry season and have had little rain in four months or more. i commented to the workers today that the winds were very variable and seemed more tropical/unstable than norm. hmmm, and you note a stormy essence… wonder if something’s brewing?

Bamboo is pretty amazing for building just about anything! And if you get to stand in a grove of it – it makes the loveliest creaking sounds as the wind passes through the branches. Great shots for this challenge!

thanks! yes, it is amazing, and i love the many ways ecuadorians use bamboo – from simple gates to scaffolding to rustic floor material and o course as a solid structure frame. the workers seemed honored when i showed them the post during lunch. they seemed more tolerant and understanding in the afternoon as i continued recording the building process.
we’ve had six months of the dry season, which is about to come to an end. i’m not sure what might work for a weather image post, but i’ll figure one out soon! i’d hoped to post something tonight, but i’m exhausted and about to go to sleep!
thanks again for your comment, which, btw, was in the spam folder.

What is a “ramada” project? What will you do with the bamboo pieces that you are collecting? Do you use them in your art?
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
a ramada is a palm-thatched structure. in costa rica, they are called ranchos, and palapas in other areas. they are naturally cool, and i appreciate them most when we have a hard rain.. one barely realizes it’s raining because the sound is so subtle, especially compared to rain on a tin roof!
i use those big rounds of bamboo to hold silverware, wooden spoons, paint brushes…. i would like to paint a few with some wild colors/designs and see how they look! maybe like a mini totem pole?

Ooo, good idea! Love repurposing! I use glass vases to hold the implements in my kitchen.

I love these – but I too want to know what Ramada Project is ?
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
In some countries they are called palapas; in others they are called ranchos. In Ecuador these palm-thatched living areas are called ramadas – or that’s what the people call them in the area where I live! This one is designed like a front porch, and the frame is made from bamboo and the roof is made from palm thatch/leaves.
Thanks!
