Ah! Quinoa! This week my trail has taken me to Ecuador’s Andes, home of quinoa, one of the superfoods!
Several posts in the archives feature quinoa. There are quinoa crisps and quinoa frittatas and quinouli…
Thanks, Frizztext, for perfect timing; my only problem this week is so little time on the computer and another “Q” word by the grand name of QUITO!
Hopefully that one will soon follow!

I’ll have to believe you about the deliciousness of Quinoa till I go back home next year – rice is the super food here!

ecuadorian food is fantastic! rice is often on the menu as well, though there is a large variety of vegetables to balance against the rice! i hope to visit some quinoa fields while in the Andes, this time, though i confess that i ‘don’t know nuthin’ ’bout quinoa production’!!!! hopefully it’s in season and i will learn more soon!

Quinoa is a delicious and well balanced alternative to rice. I so enjoy eating it. And love the vibrancy of the shades of red in the photos.

Hey! My friends and I visited a quinoa farm this morning; we’re back at the hacienda to charge batteries before heading back out. It was great seeing the quinoa in the fields.. it reminded me of grain sorghum.

I’m not so knowledgeable about quinoua, but I have a friend who’s been pressing it on my for some time. I intend to find some now, practice my culinary skills, and then impress the very dickens out of her with my treats. Then, I’ll show her your blogs and let her get a larger sense of the background of the grain she loves so much!

I just discovered quinoa recently and love it. It is even available here in my little Wyoming pueblo. However there are disagreements on how it is pronounced. What is the proper way?

I also love Quinoa. I’ve also posted a few recipes on my blog – it cooks like rice and is a great alternative. I’m looking forward to seeing your photos of the quinoa farm.
Your photo of the farmer with his animals at the top is really lovely!

hibiscus flowers are a daily part of my diet; it’s so great to step into the garden and retrieve flowers, mint, lemon grass and make an herbal tea.. or a salad… or saute the buds with onions and garlic.. or mince them for garnish! thanks so much for your comment! z
