Two photo challenges overlapped this week; Jake prompted us for a post about cities, and Frizztext’s march through the alphabet brought us to the letter Q. My friends, Hank and Marie Groff, arrived in Quito for their first visit to Ecuador, so enjoy the pictorial of their first two days in the country!

I love Quito. Your friends are lucky to have you as tour guide. Love that photo of the twig (bamboo??) wall at Casa del Alabado. Looks like you all are having fun.
We are having a great visit and are presently at the oldest hacienda in the country (Hacienda Guachala) half an hour antes Otavalo.
Yes, the twig wall treatment was impressive. Having someone in the photo helps show the scale!
Tomorrow we’re Banos bound!
Thanks for commenting!

Lovely photos from a part of the world I can’t even imagine. Well, at least I couldn’t! Now I can – just a bit – thanks to you!
That’s such a great attitude! I look forward to finding time to wade through the past day’s photos here at Hacienda Guachala, the tour of a rose production facility, a tour of a quinoa farm AND a trip to the colorful market at Otavalo. I look forward to sharing more soon!

Have a great time together. I just love looking at all your pictures and reading your thoughts here on line. Thanks for sharing your pieces of paradise with all of us.
Thank you, Gwen! I am glad that you’re enjoying the posts! That means a lot!
It’s so great to see Hank and Marie and to be a tourist for a while! The Andes are such a contrast to balmy Guanacaste – especially at night (brrr), though the days have been quite nice.
I was amused by the marie mask / guess who-picture 🙂
we have been laughing a lot.. be prepared for some really fun images. we have little time for internet or photos but wow, are we ever having a great trip!
from guaranda, ecuador

Hello Lisa, Hello Marie and Hank !
what a pleasure to see that you are together and in such good mood.
Marie and Hank, enjoy your stay in this nice country, enjoy being tourists (that’s not so frequent !), enjoy having a nice and kind guide such as Lisa.
Lise and I are thinking to you three.
warmest thoughts
Helene
hey amiga! we continue to have a great time and agreed that your presence would make it even better! we have laughed a lot at unexpected surprise moments, and sometimes the beauty of the andes all but makes us cry.
we are in the small city of guaranda tonight and heading to cuenca tomorrow.
more soon,
lisa
The Casa del Alabado looks awesome and its contents even more so!
I met a girl from Quito while traveling through Europe in the mid 80’s, and we kept in touch for a while. She used to be a guide on the Galapagos cruises. Her letters became intermittent and finally stopped. This post brought back memories of that pretty young girl 🙂
i’m glad you enjoyed the post. my friends and i are having an amazing trip down the andes.
it would be great to find out what happened to your pen pal.
