Oh, what beautiful hummingbirds! We have only a couple of species, I believe. The ruby-throated are one.
But speaking of lunch, I just this morning found out there’s a new, small Peruvian restaurant right down the street from me – maybe only a mile. The reviews they’ve gotten online are fantastic. It’s empanadas for lunch today!
hey
how were the empanadas.. or the ceviche? peruvian (and ecuadorian) ceviche is different from the ceviche i’ve had in central america. it’s better, in my humble opinion.
there’s a great peruvian restaurant in manta ecuador, and i love eating there. the staff is so kind, and the restaurant is squeaky clean!
did you have a pisco sour to go with your empanada?
Outstanding photos Lisa! When we visited Costa Rica, it was great to see all the different types of hummers. Also, I’ve tried to photograph them many times, and I can state emphatically, your pix are awesome. ~James
hey! thanks! i stood very still with my hand out w/the camera. after a few minutes, the birds ignored me. if one takes enough photos, one captures a jewel every so often!
Love it!
I just posted some birds readying for a feast, don’t think they will get as many ooos and awes that your sweet little hummers will. lol – Mary
mary; i am so far behind on answering comments and reading posts. i look forward to when life stops so i can catch up on your bird series.
thanks so much for taking time for mine.

AMAZING PHOTOS!
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
thank you!
So beautiful! We have a few hummingbirds and the streamertail (or Doctor Bird) is the fancy one and our national bird. These are just beautiful. I love his blue head… We have two hummingbird feeders which other birds are also attracted to – especially small visiting warblers and our gorgeous resident oriole (quite a large bird)…
hey again. for sure you would love mindo. it usually tops the annual christmas bird count – if not, it’s in the number two spot. z
Lovely photos of these little beauties! The ruby-throated hummingbirds that we see here seem motionless in mid-air, but zip off as soon as I have the camera!
i stand very still while holding my camera as close to the feeder as possible. after a few minutes, they ignore me! z
I bet you’re having a great time, Lisa. They’re such gems. Take a look at this when you have a chance (maybe when you get back). It’s a Hummingbird cam in CA, with two nestlings that grow visibly every day. http://www.ustream.tv/hummingbirdnestcam
wow; thanks so much for this link; i spent most of that week in the road and am just now catching up on a long queue of comments that i wasn’t aware that i’d missed!
this looks like a great link
oh my god how did you get this photos amazing!
hey amiga!
i stood very still by the feeding stations and took lots of photos!
thanks so much!
Great photos, they sure are beauties !
thanks! you’ll be having hummingbirds like that – your little slice of eden is amazing!
How delightful to see hummingbirds “Brunch”! Thank you for sharing the beautiful pics, z!
you are so welcome! thank you for taking time to read my posts! i’m way way behind on reading posts, but the painting is going well.

Marvelous captures Lisa!
Excellent!
thanks!
They are so beautiful – I am looking forward to the day when I see one in real life, :).
i’ll never forget when i witnessed a friend/guide from the UK when he saw his first hummingbird. i hope that you see one sooner and not later! z
Me too! 🙂
Love your hummingbird lunchtime; it’s a winner.
I love hummingbirds too and used to have a lot of them around my cabin 2 miles outside of Yellowstone National Park. I had to take them down, though, because the feeders attract grizzly bears. I trust you don’t have that problem!
hey! you’re right, we don’t have that problem, though ecuador does have a ‘spectacled bear.’ i’ll have to ask if anyone has trouble with bears raiding their feeders!

hey thanks! it’s late, and i’m catching up! seeing those hummingbirds was worth the 10-hour trip to mindo!
It is so difficult to capture their beauty but you have done so Z. Great photos 🙂
that is so sweet of you to say that! i stood very still and took lots of photos.. that helps the odds of getting a few good ones!
The hummingbird colors are grogeous. He’s having a gourmet lunch. Very nice photo …
