The floor design strengthens with each day. Barbara continues to keep the pace and endures long hours of painting! She’s tireless and forever cheerful, and she quickly switches to other tasks if I’m bogged down with meticulous attention to details on the floor.
My friend Silvana dropped by the house and helped with the border. Before she left, we enjoyed a hibiscus/white wine/’agua con gas’ drink and then watched the birds come home to roost.
Are you ready to see the latest images?!
This post surely falls under the WordPress challenge for color, don’t you think?
I’ll try to prompt Barb to stop long enough to write a postcard!!!
More soon! Z
Well – Colour Part 1, I’d say because, as you say, when you put the black, and it pops – that’ll be a whole new dimension in colour! 🙂
hey! thanks for the quick comment! yes, it’s going really well, and those darks and details are going to be the true magic ingredient!

Love the tile work. The bodega is looking so good people will want to buy the paintings off the floor!
ha! we’ll have to have some prints made! we laughed and said the best way to photograph the floor is to cut a hole in the floor above so that we’re shooting straight down!
Yes!
good ritual to paint on the floor! my desks are always too small …
so true! there’s nothing like a huge clean smooth surface to spread out the work!
wow, utterly wonderful to have such color underfoot.. want to come paint something on my entryway 😉
it would be fun to make your entryway a stunning work of art!!! i’ll wait til the magic carpet is finished, then i’ll zip in your direction during the next full moon!
thanks so much!

Thanks so much for showing us the progress on this project. It’s fascinating to watch it come together!
thanks ruth; as you know, sometimes we get so focused on the painting that we forget to take photos. it’s been great to have barb as backup! too bad you can’t be here to help!
z
Oh! That would be such fun!
Wanted to send a quick HI to you both. That is awesome!
hey!
thank you so much! i’ll be sure that barb sees your note! we’re on a roll and will resume painting soon! today will be an intense day of painting, but the floor is about to pull together with much more strength!
thanks again!
z
This is stunning! What a lovely floor! Can’t wait to see it all finished…Thank you!
yes, we can’t wait either! we both want to finish before we take time off for – anything! we also have that pile of driftwood awaiting our attention!
z
I believe someone was born with a bucket of paint in their hands. Just wondering how many it took to paint this wonderful magic carpet on the floor?
I told barb last night that i would have been working on this one for months without her help! thank you for appreciating the work that’s gone into this!
What a great way to make your floor unique.
thank you so much! yes, it’s very unique and continues to evolve!
Love your turtle floor Z!!!
Hey Barb that door is really looking great – it’s popping now! Love how the border is shaping up, the floor has a magical appeal – wonderful piece of art! Hard not to love your sunsets and refreshing drink. Lisa you look so relaxed painting on the floor. Your gallery will be a showcase and one to be highlighted in a travel magazine as a must see!
thanks, dear sweet mary! perhaps one day we’ll have a show here for you and your beautiful pastels/seascapes! z
Wow Z, that would be very exciting!! I’m looking forward to seeing photographs of your finished gallery with your beautiful works of art. Best ~

OMG!! Beautiful idea!!! awesome detail work!!
what a smile you gave us! thanks, susan
Wow so beautiful! I am loving watching the progress! What is the place you are painting? A studio?
si.. the house is on the second floor of a farm building.. the bottom has always been a bodega. it’s now ‘studio space,’ and it’s come a long way in a hurry! z
I bet it will be wonderful! 🙂 Is it close to your house?
ha! it’s below my house! i love above the bodega, which once held the big plastic tanks used for harvesting the shrimp ponds. getting it clean was quite a task, so the painting has been a great challenge! it’s great to see it changing daily! z
Oh cool! How far are you from town then? It looks so beautiful!
it’s an hour’s walk, about five kilometers
Not bad at all. I’ve GOT to visit. I have so many places I want to go. Just wish I had all the money to do it and time and babysitting. Got to keep saving up, right! Have you heard at all from Cathy and Sarah? She hasn’t blogged forever so I was wondering if they moved yet to Ecuador?
i heard from her today.. they move on the first of may! she says that she’ll be posting tomorrow. z
Yeah!!!
Here’s a question for you – when you mention the color “wash”, what does that mean? A very simple answer is fine!
It’s just such a beautiful project – I can’t believe how alive it seems.
the color is ‘floated’ across the surface, sort of like dropping a tincture into water and watching it flow.. the very thin transparent layer dries before the next one is added.
z
Got it! Thanks! Now I can “see” what you’re doing!
Stellar art Z! You are an inspiration…
thank you! we’re going to have a nice celebration when we’re finished! z
Great arts work.
thanks! just took a quick break from painting, though barb continues to paint! z
I…can…not…believe…you…guys…are…doing…this!!! You’d better have a big box for people to leave their dirty shoes in at the door!
you are so kind! i just took a break to come turn off the ginger/mint tea that’s been brewing on low! barb’s going to strike if i don’t get back to the floor!!! it’s going well!
thanks for the thumbs up! z
Oh God!! you’re going fast, no doubt with that spectacular sunset I will never get tired…. I´m pretty sure nobody could give more love to that door than Barb!!!!Great job! ladies
thanks so much, amiga.. we’re so glad that you added your sensitive touches to it as well!
z
all I can say is incredible! had to tweet this!
hey amiga! thanks so much! z

I don’t understand how you can let anyone walk on that floor! Not with shoes on?
Wonderful work!
hey! most people remove their shoes when entering homes in ecuador. the finish on this floor will be a clear one made for floors, so it’s pretty forgiving. thank you! z
Take time, patience, talent…. Too beautiful! “how you can let people walk on it?” I wonder, too…
a really-good clear finish made for floors is very forgiving. thanks! z
It’s hard to believe that you could make that spectacular floor any more “popping” but I’ll stay tuned!
thank you, richard, for your kind words! z
I am flabbergasted! This is multi-colored magnificence. Can’t wait for the finished product.
thank you! today the work caught up with barb and me! after about three hours ‘off,’ i was able to refocus and resume.. am heading back there now! z
Gosh, I thought it had already popped!
thanks! we started work on the ‘pop’ late yesterday!
more soon!

The floor is quite amazing! And I note that you are not only an artist, but also a contortionist!
that’s one side-benefit for working on the floor! it probably helps keep the joints healthy! z
These sunset panoramas are dreamy 🙂 🙂
it’s hard not to stop for those sunsets, and the birds that careen over the house and down over the water add so much to that final hour of the daytime. thanks!
z
That sunset is so glorious what a great way to end the day watching the sun go down and the birds come home to roost
thank you amiga.. yes, it’s a very serene way to end each day! thank you!
Such wondeful dedication to your art and such wonderful results. It is always a joy to drop by to read and enjoy the images of your labours. Have a wonderful week! regards, James
hey thanks! i’m always pleased to have courteous drop-in visitors like you! may your week be wonderful as well! z
Thanks Z and you are very welcome
What an amazing job you’re all doing. I love the bodega door colours, and that floor is as magical as that sunset. 🙂
thank you! the room all but reaches out and gives a grand hug to anyone who enters. it definitely feels good to the eyes and soul. thanks! z
Wow! What an amazing floor!
we have enjoyed the challenge! thanks so much!
