Catching up on the Alphabet Challenge, I am pleased to share many fun and easy Spanish words that begin with the letter P. While the interent is thinking faster at two in the morning, I present to you this sampler!
Plato – Plate, Pan – Bread, Platanos – Plantains
Platano – Plantain = Patacones!
Plantains are often used to make Patacones, a popular side dish in Latin America.
Perro – Dog This perro often dropped by for a visit in Costa Rica and enjoyed the cool piso!
Piso sounds a lot like Pisco, a grape brandy from Peru and Chile. Pisco pairs well with maracuya for a cool refreshing Piscorita!
Pescado – Fish
Punta – Point (As in a pencil point or a landmark along a coastline…)
Piedra- Rock
Postre – Dessert
Picoflor – Hummingbird!

Colibri, sometimes called Picaflor. (Pico/pica/picar can mean to stick or prick; flor means flower.)
Now where’s that Pollo?
Pollo – Chicken, Pavo – Turkey, Pato – Duck – Sorry; the pavo and pato images must have escaped from the files!
There are many more words that start with P. Are you ready for more? How about Policia?
Policia – Police
Playa- Beach
Piso – Floor
Pintura – Paint
Hmmmm. I wonder what I could use to illustrate piso and pintura?!!!!
I’ve been painting while images uploaded; a floor update is coming soon, but for now, I will say, “Goodnight!” I hope you enjoyed the post!
Buenas noches,
Z
P is for Perfect Photos.
you are so great! thank you! z
Wow–that floor is perfection!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hugs,
Kathy
thanks! it does seem to move at times! z
What a wonderful collection of “P” images.
BE ENCOURAGED! BE BLESSED!
Thank you! There are many more great ones! If only all of the letters were so easy! I should start preparing now for Q!
Thanks so much for the lesson. I especially liked learning a new name for colibri – picoflor. Makes sense as pico also means beak (as in pico de gallo) and colibri use their beaks to poke into flowers.
This was a fun post – Thanks again.
thank you! now the magic hour of 8 is here, and the gazelle internet is going to sleep while the sloth prepares for its shift!
Pretty photos of Ps…I especially like the pescados.
thanks! yes, i am a little bit hungry this morning, and the thought of fresh filet de pescado would make a perfect break from my fast!!!
Perfecto!!!
And I can’t wait for that floor update…..perfection seems an understatement 🙂
you are so kind!
the fringe on the rug is looking quite believable! :))
hi Lisa,
a wonderful Spanish P-lesson!
I like Pollo, Pan, Plantains and Pargo!
(You know, I’m always hungry…)
ja! yes, it’s great to live where there’s an abundance of amazing foods! thanks!
I´m so proud of myself to see my patacones on your post 🙂 I love the farmer with the chickens!!! Perfecto Lisa!!! I’m sure you have a lot of word with Q. I´ll be waiting to see..
ja! quito is one, but maybe i’ll ask my painting assistant for help.. or perhaps i should ask my personal exclusivo chef! thanks!
z
Do you by any chance speak quichua?!
no I don´t know quichua I just know some words. chuchaqui is one of my favorite it means hangover 🙂 guambra-child, pachamama-madre tierra, inti raymi-fiesta del sol (is a traditional indigenous celebration they celebrate inty raymi at solstice) ñaño-brother, ñaña-sister, huayra-wind, causay-life, tata-father, this are some of the word I know. I need to learn
oh, but those will make a great post for you! the world would love what you have to share! z
you’re right!!!! I need to make decisions about topics for my posts I need practices!!! thanks for your suggestion.
you’re welcome! i’m heading to manta and portoviejo tomorrow and might end up in portoviejo at night. if so i’ll be rolling back to jama on wednesday.. if i make it back tues night, i’ll drop by. z
It would be great to see you…. Excluivo is always open for your visit. 😉
I”ll toss a rock upstairs if you’re closed! or will email you from ciragan if i stay there.. we should give YOU a treat and go to luchy’s for a change! My treat! z
sounds great I would love. I´ll be waiting your email or your rock
Great snapshot catching the hummingbird wings. Thanks for the lessons Z.
watching those hummingbirds makes me wistful to return to that spot. i suspect it could be quite addictive – just watching the birds all day!
Could your posts be any more fun? Nice job, Lisa. I was waiting for pintura 😉 And pan like that would be my downfall! How do you say carb freak in Spanish?!?!?! Ugh!
ha! carb freak is a fun one!
while in town today, i bought two cubes of banana bread at ten cents each. it’s a good thing that i don’t go to town often or i’d be addicted to the banana bread!
Banana bread! Another of the devil’s temptations! 😉
Why is it that everything that tastes so good add inches to my hips?!?
Ok. Too much information!
ha ha ha!
With your love of bright colors it is easy to see why you are so happy in that place. But why aren’t you fat?? The food looks delicious.
ja! an older friend in town eyed me yesterday, reached over and caressed my waist and uttered, ‘gorda.’ i laughed.! my time with barb probably did add some extra pounds, especially when we traveled!
here in ecuador, the food might be colorful and tasty, but most of it is healthy! i eat very little junk food, and when i paint, i usually force myself to stop to eat. eating every four or so hours keeps my blood sugar level, very important to keeping a steady hand!
i have a 5-k walk to town, which helps a lot! i walked half way yesterday until i crossed paths with a friend who was checking his shrimp ponds. (he had just returned from the states!) he gave me a ride to town.
i will be returning this afternoon, as there’s a meeting about the next post-painting project!
that walk helps a lot!
i just finished reading your post that reminds us of the wisdome of swift’s gulliver’s travels! made me wistful to have that book in my hand! ditto for animal farm!
I agree with your other commenters Lisa. Perfection does not begin to describe your photos and your painting. 🙂
hey thanks! i worked on the floor til after ten last night. the details take as much time as it does to block in the entire area! z
P = Perfecto!
Thanks for the Spanish lesson, Z. I am a perpetual student determined to learn that language! I love the name Picoflor for hummingbird. I have a friend who calls them “bumble birds”
Bumble Birds! That’s a great name! Thank YOU for taking the time to comment!
Hi Z and I loved the UP post! You are delightfully creative! This is just what I need after such a busy day! Thanks for sharing!
hey! thank you! i hope that your day was busy yet rewarding! i’ve been painting ‘agua stop’ on the next section of the bodega walls.. not too challenging, but there was comfort in the easy work! i have more white paint on me than i think is on the walls! z
That grilled pescado and the pescado gumbo look delicious. Can I invite myself for dinner?
but of course! i’ll send the magic carpet in your direction. the winds are brisk out of the northwest, so it might not be as fast as normal! z
That’s ok, Lisa! It will be worth the wait, and the long journey in whatever the prevailing winds! 🙂
