A belt of clouds often shrouds our planet’s equator, though I am always delighted to look up at night and see a Carl Sagan sky! This weekend, remember to LOOK UP for the annual Lyrid Meteors! The peak time for seeing the shower will be on April 21/22 – Sunday night/Monday morning.

Learn about the equator and the lines of the solstice and equinox at Cayambe Ecuador’s Mitad de Mundo attraction,.
For more info, see details at Sky and Telescope.
Although a gentle rain is falling now, I hope to glimpse a few early arrival meteors later tonight. Sometimes it pays to look up!
See more posts about looking up HERE.
That’s all folks! Let me know if you catch any meteors!

Thank you kindly for the reminder!
You are quite welcome! 🙂
It will be too cloudy and wet to see anything here. Hope you have a better view.
we had a soft gentle rain all night. maybe skies will clear for both of us.
Hope it does clear up by Sunday night, have never seen a meteor shower
oh my! what a treat it is to see a shower. every november in costa rica, i’d set up a hammock between two leafless trees and camp outside for the night. for about four nights, i watched from midnight until dawn, and each night i counted about 100 meteors.
there was no chance of seeing meteors last night; we have had a soft gentle rain all night. how is it there?
We always have too much cloud cover or light from the city.
So cool to see. Thanks for sharing
i am always grateful to be away from the city during celestial events! we had rain for most of the night, so hopefully the skies will purge before tomorrow night! z
Did you ever try to shoot star trails? I did once in Washington state. Would live to see your showers.
i haven’t but that would be fun to capture some! ditto for capturing a meteor or two!
How fun it must been to leave so close to the equator! I am not sure if I will even catch a glimpse of the Lyrid Meteors. It’s overcast and rainy where I presently am.
it’s always worth a peek or two after midnight; i always drink lots and lots of water so that i’m sure to awaken before dawn and peer outside! sometimes the clouds clear, and ‘zing!’ a meteor swishes across the sky, and i snap out of my dream fog and dash outside!
bob (piran cafe) has reached bolivia and has been posting an eclectic variety of images!
hope all is going well!

That sounds exciting. The last one I saw a meteor shower in the Philippines was about 30 years ago or more. No camera then for me. Keeps us updated . Have a fun weekend my friend.
i am lucky that i live where there is little light pollution. what little we have, i am always wistful for a power outage so that the night can be as liquid black as possible during a meteor shower! i wish you and your family could see one soon!

I’ve never been to this part of the world. Thanks for a little peek.
janet

Great! I’ll have to check it out. Sounds really amazing. 🙂
i’ll bet you have stunning skies if you get away from the lights of the city.

Did you ever paint what you’ve seen? Just saying’ 😉
as in ‘starry starry night?’ i’ve seen 100’s of meteors each night until i said, ‘ok, lisa.. just how many meteors do you need to see?!” some great memories go along – one when i think a jaguar was lurking in the shadows! there are so many tales!
Yes! As in…
Jaguars?!?! I’m outta there!
Look forward to seeing your meteor shots 🙂
lo siento.. only the full moon! z
