Exclusivo quick lunch break (I suggested something quick like canned tuna and a tomato!) What a treat – a tuna/potato/carrot salad AND grilled fish and plantains for a touch of sweetness!
Ecuador –
While Barbara and I were working on the magic carpet in April, Silvana wrote, “I would love to help with something I’m not a painter but I know cook .” (See BODEGA FLOOR IMPROVES) She chuckled and told us if one can easily chop an onion, they should be able to paint! By witnessing how she and Vania were naturals at painting, I would put them against anyone in an onion-chopping competition! So the gals can paint, and they can chop onions, but can they cook?

Restaurant Exclusivo – Jama Ecuador

Restaurant Exclusivo – Jama – Typical ‘almuerzo’ lunch special: Shrimp soup (sorry, I had that first!) Grilled fish, beet salad, rice (with leftover shrimp soup – my Mississippi roots prompted that soup on top of the rice!) All of that plus fresh juice for a whopping price of $3.50! Looking at all of that fish, I suspect they dole out a little more for their friend Lisa…

This was a lovely ‘fast meal’ – fresh and with a splash of french fries/comfort food!

One never tires of the fresh fish from the nearby fishing village of El Matal. The fishermen deliver to their door. (Chifles/fried plantain chips to the left)

Paul and Cinzia try out the new table!

Stewed pork, salad and rice. Unsweetened orange juice!

‘Camarones con Verduras” – Oh my, is this ever wonderful!

Fish, patacones, and a salad for two!

Silvana y Vania

Where’s my serving?
Yes, sisters Silvana and Vania are culinary artists who can also paint! See Silvana’s final installment about the final painting sessions: Chevere WP TV Show:End Chapter!

all of it looks yummy !
They are great cooks and are so sensitive to their regular customer’s tastes! They always make fresh juice for me, since their ‘normal’ has sugar in there.. I had never requested ‘sin azucar’ but they asked once, ‘would you like that orange juice w/o sugar?’ and after that, it’s another eggsample (!) of how they serve others!
Ah we can see that cooking is a fine art too. Sweet little cat. I am sure it was given the tastiest morsels 🙂
Even if the food didn’t taste good (which I seriously doubt) it is beautiful to look at! Thanks for a Monday pick-me-up!
Food artists!
That’s my kind of eating – a feast for the eyes too!
That looks delicious. I do love plantain. Sweet and yummy!
i’ll bet you have plantains there; are they expensive?
Top of the mornin’ to you, Z!
What time is dinner…..?
you are so right! i’ll be back there tonight, as my bus doesn’t leave for the highlands until 10 or 11. we’ll have a token plate set in your honor!

How wonderful, lucky you, Z! 🙂
yes, i find myself wistful for a plate of shrimp/ camarones con verduras this morning!
Awesome presentation, made even more beautiful with all the art! Hope the kitty got some 😛
the kitty is quite picky when it comes to food! it’s well loved but does not like being the center of attention!
One thing I love most about Central and South American countries is the fresh food! Fruit, veggies and everything made from scratch. If only we could eat more like that here! You are making me so hungry now! 🙂
Z, I am now famished. This looks excellent. Thanks for sharing, BTG
waiting on the 11 pm bus, i just finished a meal of ‘camarones con verduras,’ and it was light and wonderful! am on my way to quito tonight and will arrive around 5 in the morning. will be basically offline for most of the week.
you and hugh – keep slaying those dragons!

The food and tables both look fantastic. Shrimp soup sounds so delish!
Look what you’ve done Lisa! you’ve dedicated a post just to show our meals, I’m seriously considering deciding who is our best customer now? I would vote for you 🙂 muchas gracias Amiga you’re the best I hope we can meet for the Inti Raymi, I will keep in touch.
Yummm… if that’s the way you eat, I’m coming to Ecuador. Tony
Una comida especial para una mujer especial. 🙂
Well, if I am ever in ecuador, I know where I am eating!
Reservations for two, please, on the newly painted table, by the newly painted wall. I want to try it all. 🙂
That looks so delicious and the colourful tables set off the colourful food a treat. I know where I would eat if I come to town… 🙂
This all looks so temptingly delicious. Gorgeous artwork too. That dear kitty looks very hopeful. 🙂
Honestly, it all looks so good! I miss plantain chips – they were a staple in Liberia with guacamole (not a Liberian food!) And that sweet, sweet kitty. Ever hopeful, those kitties are!
Judging by the pictures there is no doubt that the sisters can cook. I get hungru just looking at the pictures. When and where will their cooking skills be available?
How can something so simple sound so good? Tomatoes are in season soon! I am leaving here starving!
Oh so delicious I can tell you. The plantain chips are a delicacy here 🙂
ah! this area grows LOTS of plantains! i had chifles (thin orbs of fried green plantains) with shrimp ceviche yesterday.
wish i could send you a truckload of green plantains!
