“Teachers open the door, but you must enter by yourself.’ (Chinese Proverb)
This afternoon while visiting neighbors at La Division, I volunteered to finish an abandoned Happy Birthday poster that waited for Nely’s attention. (Nely’s hands were busy with kitchen duty for the beach crowd.) Sonia, who had just arrived from a 5-hour drive from Quito, volunteered to help with the poster.
Have you ever watched a thirsty person drink a tall glass of water? Sonia plunged one hundred percent into the task and drank in the opportunity to unleash her creativity!
Sonia’s husband helped with a splash of yellow, and within half an hour, the poster was finished!
All we knew was that the birthday fiesta will be for a woman from Cuba on vacation at the beach with friends! Do you think she’ll be surprised?!
with that Birthday sign, I seriously thinking stop by La Division tomorrow 🙂
beautiful work, as always
hermoso detalle para un feliz cumpleaños… you must feel so proud to have your art as their inspiration 🙂 un abrazo, Alexandra
Pleased and surprised and amazed besides 🙂
Definetely both surprised and pleased! And that Chinese proverb…In Sweden we say something like: “You can lead the horse to the water, but it has to drink it itself”. Always a joy to see pictures from your creativity!
Beautiful and bright – reminds us of similar happy times in Canoa. 🙂
Love the Chinese proverb and totally adore the poster. Sonia and her husband did an wonderful job! So many fun things to do! Sounds like you are doing well, dear Z. Hope to meet you one day soon. Sara is in the US supervising the loading of our container, which is set to leave TODAY!
Hugs from Cuenca,
Kathy
Oops. “An” should be “a.”
Great way to begin a celebration – everyone in smiles and working together to make for a special time.
Feliz Cumpleanos – nice Zeebra design hand!
This reminds me of the art teacher I had in school. He taught me from fourth grade to eighth grade, and was a little grouchy, but I loved his classes and I think he had a soft place in his heart for me. Thanks for reminding me of him!
Definitely, she’ll be surprised and happy… all those smiles, art in the making, a celebration on the horizon… what more could one ask for… 🙂 Teachers rock

Who wouldn’t be surprised AND delighted to see such a lovely greeting? Lovely post Lisa. Is that gravel you have sprinkled on the letters and the bottom edge? Love the effect whatever it is 🙂
I like your storytelling:
“reconciling wakefulness with slumber, i was jolted to my senses this morning when a beautiful ‘cloud’ of storks flew past, and my camera was on the other side of the room! ah, seeing those white splotches with black wingtips against the dark morning sky is burned in my memory!”

As always, the only things more beautiful than the works of art are the artists themselves! I just love seeing your photos of smiling, enthusiastic people. Joy really is contagious!
thank you, beautiful julia! z
yes, and it’s so very easy to pass a smile and start a domino effect! thanks amiga! z
