“Talent is like a water table under the earth. You tap into it with your effort and it comes through you, from the bottom of the earth.” (Natalie Goldberg)
After drawing the butterfly design (see previous post) with a black permanent marker, Silvana pondered the colors for her sister’s birthday surprise. With a thick paper between the front and back of the shirt, she slowly applied the acrylics.
Watch over my shoulder and enjoy the magic!
How’s this for a happy-birthday gift?!!!!
Congratulations, Silvana! You did a GREAT job!

Wow! That’s so beautiful. Did she have to do anything special to set the paint so it can be washed? I love the gift wrapping, too. You just gave me a great idea for a birthday gift wrap on Sunday. 🙂

Oh wow! This is something unique and the gift wrap too. It looks like a lesson in not only design techniques, but patience as well…not trying to rush it.

What a beautiful gift. That wrapping is gorgeous – banana leaf, right? I think I remember there are dishes that are cooked while wrapped in a banana leaf, but I can’t for the life of me remember what.
I like the quotation about talent from Goldberg, too. We talk about “tapping into talent”, but no one else I can remember has made explicit the connection to water.
I’m just north of Amarillo this morning, and I’m going to play like an old work horse and head for home. Yesterday morning, I woke at 5:30 and thought, “It’s time to go home.” I was at the corner of Colorado, Kansas and Oklahoma (more about that later) and I didn’t have time to go farther west – at least, if I wanted to do the kind of exploration I like. So, we’ll save that for another trip.
