This one almost got me!
Playa San Miguel Costa Rica — Every so often Mother Ocean flexes her muscles and reminds us of how small we really are! These high tides barreled up the beach, through the palms and scattered this group of wave watchers!

One little girl has good instincts!

Yeah I can see how that was unexpected 🙂 Oh … thank you for the idea
ha! thanks – and – you’re so welcome!
Linking to yours since you gave me the idea 😉
that’s great image, and it was surely COLD when you were stalking that lighthouse and those waves!
I was lucky. I was standing on my balcony 🙂
yes, but your eyes and artistic vision were working.. i would have been thrilled as well!
many times i am disappointed when i view the images on the computer.. i failed to capture what i saw/felt.. but wow, you really did a great job!
YEs I do that as well. I look at the viewscreen on my camera and it looks good, but when I see it on the computer, it is out of focus, distorted or grainy. These are a little grainy, but I am willing to put up with that for a once in a life time shot 🙂

Compared with that we have so little of the unexpected here, but I’ll look for it, Z. Great series of photos, have a great weekend as well!

Oh yes! Hanging 10 unexpectedly. HA! Looks like everyone had fun catching the wave.
Your photos are truly remarkable!
Oh…and you’re back! Happy to see you! Love this entry for unexpected!
As scary as the unpredictable ocean can be, this looks like fun! Fab shots, Lisa.
i joined the early-rising locals at dawn ea day to inspect the changes.. we’d watch in collective and silent awe. later that day at the more-convenient high tide, a larger group gathered. we burst into laughter when waves flushed us to higher ground!
A game of tag with the sea. Fun! 😉

My wife, who is from the Philippines, has pointed out many times that even in the aftermath of disasters in various poor parts of the world, children often keep right on playing.
she is an observant woman! yes, we can learn a lot from the young ones.. that will make a great angle for a post about thanksgiving! thanks!
ps.. i’ve missed seeing your beautiful photos paired with interesting information… hobbling along and trying creative options to improve the signal!

Z, cool pix. I love the comments about the kids keeping on playing. Yet, I must also confess, this “unexpected event” may be less unexpected in the future. Have a fabulous weekend. BTG

Wonderful shots of the unexpected!
I love it when the ocean becomes a trickster – as long as no one gets hurt. And these kids seemed to be having a blast!
Lovely pictures!

Wow Z, beautiful shots – but there is something a bit scary about the powerful of Mother’s ocean right? She draws us in with her sea-lapping waveletes and just when we’re comfortable she slams the earth with powerful forces that remind us whose in charge. Beautiful.
Beautiful and moving at the same time. I love the ocean but recently it reminded me that in an instant it can be our source of loss and pain too. I still won’t stop enjoying its beaches and waves but then this time I will remember to take care of nature more as everything around us are interconnected. A blessed day my friend.

I hope everyone remained safe as all too often we can get caught unawares with such forces of nature. Hope you have an enjoyable week Z., best regards, James

Lisa, how well I know those unexpected waves in Costa Rica! Your photo essay on this topic brings back a flood of memory. I told you about them before so I won’t repeat the story, but will affirm that they do command respect!
