Chess Mates
The Daily Prompt rolled through, and while tapping into a fast internet signal, I am pleased to share this post that illustrates contemplation.

Raul, of Hostal Cruzita, takes time out to mentor a future chess master!
I remain impressed that many Ecuadorians practice the art of contemplation through the game of chess, and they take time to mentor the younger generation.
The children of Playa San Miguel Costa Rica often contemplate the mysteries of their marine ecosystem. I will always treasure the memories of the day an olive ridley sea turtle came ashore in the daytime to lay her eggs.

Hopefully these children will grow up and help fight for nature’s rights.
* Thanks to those who are actively helping (via easy pain-free voting!) the turtles catch up with the frogs; the frogs and turtles are swimming, crawling and leaping towards a $20,000 prize! Some out-of-the USA people hit a stumbling block with the zip code requirement. One found a way around the problem by using her sister’s USA zip code. “Save the Frogs” remains in first place, but let’s help those endangered turtles come from behind and win in the final stretch!

Thanks for spreading the word! Z
My voting’s done – maybe we can turn this into a version of the tortoise and the hare!
after i hit ‘publish’ i thought of that for the title.. you are so right, and it would be fun to find a way to get everyone more active in this – – – so how, my dear friend in texas, can we creatively upgrade that thought and make it come to life? i’m about to be home again where pages won’t load, comments won’t go through, pending posts won’t save, and images won’t upload until late night…
i pass the baton to someone with a faster set of internet legs!

Z…Just voted…and thanks for encouraging Barney to post photos of his artistic woodwork crafting. His cutting boards are absolutely beautiful. Celebrating Thanksgiving tomorrow with friends? R.
hey thanks! i hope that the turtles win this race!
i am glad that barney can tap into his amazing gift of woodworking during the winter months. yes, they are beautiful!
thanksgivingi\/ is it thanksgiving week\/ i saw a ‘black friday’ advertisement and thought, ‘black friday\ = oh yes, i do recall a life when i would do almost anything except join the masses on a day of black-friday shopping!”
i’ve been so busy with painting the flloor, going back and forth to manta for visa steps and preparing for a tour that arives on friday, that i had totally forgotten about thanksgiving! brer rabbit will be home on the river and happily working on artistic projects.
because of slow internet, i doubt if i pen anything worthy for thanksgiving. saving drafts and uploading photos are almost impossible tasks…
i hope that you have a great holiday season!

Yes I had trouble providing a zip code especially since we don’t even have a street address. So I used a previous one from the US. This am when I opened the front door around 5:30, I heard a noise by the dog dish, A very large toad was drinking his fill at the water dish, or maybe he was just trying to crawl in. I’m sure he’ll be happy when he rainy season returns in a month or so.
ha! small frogs find their way into my house and we’ve reached a compromise.. in fact, they make pretty great models for reference material.. maybe that toad is guarding your home/watching over it like a guardian angel!
those big ones leave such smelly poop!
Those turtles are fantastic animals – and so gracious. I say so without ever haven seen one in real life, but hopefully I will one day. Yes, let’s take care of the beautiful variety of mother nature. And let’s take care of the new generation of human beings by mentoring them. What a great idea to use chess to teach them contemplation.
i hope that you are able to one day witness the turtle coming ashore to lay her eggs. for me, the most amazing part is watching her return to the sea. it’s so primal and surreal, as if we’re thousands of years in the past…
as for chess; i often see ecuadorians playing chess at the end of the day. many times there will be a sidewalk table with the chess game in progress.. it’s amazing how they can block out the sounds of traffic as they contemplate their next move!

ZIPCODE INFO from Ingrid: “If you live outside the US you can use any zip code (e.g., 90071, 90023), which is simply a sequence of five numbers used to located addresses. We are telling people to put a USA zip code that they know from a family or friend living in USA, or use ours that is 92104.”

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
My friend, Zeebra Designs is a fantastic artist living in Ecuador that needs our help.
If you have a quick second, please check out the link to vote for a grant to help save the marine turtles. It’s quick and painless, I promise!

I just voted. We get the large Cuban tree frogs which feed on our native frogs. I have no idea how these big dudes get in the house, but they do. Jump right out of the toilet. 🙂
You have my vote!
