“The Magic Portal” – Watercolor – Lisa Brunetti
The hardest challenge is to be yourself in a world where everyone is trying to make you be somebody else.
~E. E. Cummings
Watch the frog come to life! These photos show how a subject can seize control and affect the mood.
We can try to be what others want us to be…
…or we can be true to ourselves and embrace the uniqueness of our character!

(I’m away from home and will post the finished image soon!) z
Delightful. The little one has personality plus :D.
hey! thanks!
internet has been stubborn this ‘carnival’ week.. the cybercafes in town were closed, and the private providers were off more than on! did the gecko images find their way to you?
i can email them tonight/now if needed.
z
Yes, yes, they did, lovely Lisa. I have written a little post already. Perhaps when you have better internet you will be able to see it.
You’re not going to believe this – love serendipity!! I just received this poem in my e-mail.
The Frog
Be kind and tender to the Frog,
And do not call him names,
As ‘Slimy skin,’ or ‘Polly-wog,’
Or likewise ‘Ugly James,’
Or ‘Gap-a-grin,’ or ‘Toad-gone-wrong,’
Or ‘Bill Bandy-knees’:
The Frog is justly sensitive
To epithets like these.
No animal will more repay
A treatment kind and fair;
At least so lonely people say
Who keep a frog (and, by the way,
They are extremely rare).
Hilaire Belloc
I agree with Gallivanta – each one has a distinct personality.
Fantastic, Z! Both story and not the least the artwork.
love Mr. Frog
Love the images and words. Thank-you.
Beautifully done!
Always inspiring…
Actually, I like them all. Each one unique.
Very cool. I feel like I am watching Ferngully. Thanks for sharing.
Love it, Z!
Hugs from Cuenca,
Kathy
I agree with Lynne! All of the unfinished images are perfect. You continue to amaze me with your talent and eye for detail.
What a sweet way of saying be true to yourself.
Love it – beautiful drawing Z! And, also being true to yourself – way to go.
He is adorable!!!! Even his unfinished versions 🙂
I love your froggy! They are special creatures. Perhaps a crown? 😉
I like the glowing transparency of the water color in each image, just different intensities and colors which change the feel of each painting!
very good
it is so interesting how it changes as it progresses
good quote so true
saludos
Very cute and colorful.
I love watching the transformation. And the final frog is so elaborate, detailed and beautiful. As is the whole painting. Wish you a great weekend, Lisa!
A beautiful and effective interpretation of the e e cummings quote. It is interesting to see how the frog loses his/her innocence. I sometimes feel that well-meaning formal education can often contribute to the demise of individuality!
Your comment made me smile and remember one of my favorite quotations from Flannery O’Connor: “Total non-retention has kept my education from being a burden to me.”
Excellent!!
Just this afternoon I walked out of a chandlery and heard, from across the road, a chorus of spring peepers. The tree frogs and peepers and bullfrogs and such — all are ready and waiting for spring, each seeking their own kind, but perhaps seeking that “special” frog, too! If I were a girlfrog, I’d fall in love with your frog – he’s pretty handsome!
perfect…that frog’s personality shines across the net
Very cute! Love seeing a work of art come to life.
What a fascinating journey!
