Join me in being baffled at a story about YOUTUBE and copyrights. How can Google strip away the intellectual property rights/ownership of instructional videos that were obviously and rightfully owned by Paul Taggart?
Visit Oil Pastels by Mary for the story: http://oilpastelsbymary.com/2014/07/02/youtube-copyright-and-piracy-concerns/
In the above copyright/piracy post Mary notes that Paul, “… has generously shared over 260 art tutorials via YouTube, where he earned YouTube Partner status…”
Yet go to his Youtube site, and this is what one finds:
Take a cyber trip to Scotland and visit a delightful, kind and highly-talented artist who shares his story about this YOUTUBE nightmare HERE:
PAUL TAGGART (Paul shares his story via video.)
One of my most popular posts was written last July about the legal issues of right-clicking images and using them on blogs or sharing them via Pinterest. There are links to posts by others who have had material stolen, and there are links to stories about people who were sued for innocently right clicking and using images to enhance their posts. See: Right Clicking from Websites, Pinterest and Google Browse the 200 comments for collective wisdom and advice.
“It does not do to leave a live dragon out of your calculations, if you live near him.” –J. R. R. Tolkien
Good luck, Paul Taggart. May an abundance of supporters come to your side and help slay those evil dragons.

I too read it at Mary’s blog. Not surprised, as I have heard of similar cases. What’s happened to P.T. is utterly unjustified… What next?!!

I don’t understand how Youtube can side with the thieves when the facts are so obvious, including the original computer files when the videos were filmed. I hope that he regains the rights and gets those thieves kicked off of t youtube.

I am completely horrified. What is wrong with Youtube (thieves we knows what is wrong), no brains?? Good of you and Mary to bring this known.

i’m grateful to mary, and i hope that the youtube folks wake up and realize who is the rightful owner! z

I am reading ‘google guys’. They basically have the rights to anything googled. Each google guy is worth around 30 billion!
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
oh my goodness! one would think they would have compassion for the honest ones who have little voice or hope of reclaiming their rightful property…
thanks, cindy!

Intellectual capital has been under assault for some time now whether it is creative or some innovative product. There exists “patent trolls’ who search the internet and then patent a concept based on others ideas that are percolating. Then, when the person or company goes to market they claim patent infringement and usually settle for sum to go away. They actually have this as an art form. Emily wrote a post recently on the amount of plagiarism going on possibly from her blog. Nothing is sacred. I don’t know the answer to this behavior, but it makes you want to keep your ideas offline.

when i’m tapped into faster internet, i’ll have to find emily’s post.. it’s so sad to witness the cold hearts of thieves who think nothing of destroying a lifetime of work and snatching it as if they’re buzzards picking on weaker prey. i hope that he finds a way to reclaim his videos and put those thieves out of business.

Ah, yes. The patent trolls. There’s something else about Google. They’re starting their own music streaming service, to compete with Spotify and so on, and they’re taking down the channels of any indie labels or artists who don’t sign their terms and conditions.
I use gmail, because it is the best around. But otherwise? No G+, no google search (I use Ixquick, which is a private search engine) no Google drive, etc. They aren’t alone. I won’t use Flickr any more, and the recent revelations about the cozy relationship between Facebook and the US military is just beyond the pale. Facebook was caught manipulating users’ timelines, adding happy or sad postings, to see what happened to the “subjects'” emotional state. No informed consent of any sort. They claimed their terms of service covered it, but they covered their rears by adding some clauses once the news got out about what they were up to.
The military is most interested in seeing how our psyches can be manipulated — just in case there’s a little domestic turmoil, you understand. They can calm us down.
Well, remember the old Chinese curse: may you live in interesting times. And, remember the First Rule of Teh Interwebz: “If it’s free, you’re the product.”

This is horrifying. I listened to Paul’s YouTube video with shock and dismay. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Where is the justice and common sense in this? Just incredible.

i agree.. you can bet if some thief claimed ownership to a super star’s music videos, they would kick youtube’s ____ if they shut down the site and denied them their videos!

This is utterly baffling! I’ve just shared his video on FB. Maybe it’ll go viral and bite Google in it’s own ass.

Thanks Lisa for taking the time to pass the message along. It’s heartwarming to know that many feel the same as we do about the injustice that Paul has experienced. We need google to take the high road and do what’s right, instead of being a bystander.

Thanks for sharing this important and disturbing information. The more it is publicised the better.
I really hope that Paul Taggart gets justice – he is a very generous and talented artist. For him to be treated this way is appalling.
