“Art is the only way to run away without leaving home.” Thyla Harp
Taped on the ugliest wall of the riverhouse is a growing assortment of clippings, scribblings and quotes, and the above quote always makes me smile. Today’s post gives you a little peek into the gates at the riverhouse, where the internet crawls slower than today’s low tide!
Not wanting to call attention to the house, I’ve not made many improvements to the typical split-bamboo fence and hand-wired gate. This past week I eyed a stack of old palm thatch and decided that I was capable of building a thatch-roof entrance over that gate. Most of the work was completed at ground level, and I later assembled the panels on the bamboo-pole frame.
Don’t ask – suffice to know that frustration can be a powerful tool, and this transplanted Southern Scarlett was determined to get that thatch to the top of the frame before darkness halted the progress!
Several other projects have divided my time, but this stage of the garden project should be finished by the beginning of next week.
Many stories patiently await their turn, though there are few opportunities to upload images or open ‘New Post’ pages. As I often do, I’ll soon runaway to my favorite little hostal in town and spend a mini vacation in cyberspace via faster wifi!
Until then,I’ll tweak my attention to the gardens and landscape:

the biggest problem is there are not enough hours in each day.
i’d planned to come visit you and ron/blogs but i am having a reaction to hidden msg in my lunch from an hour ago.
‘ll be in town next tuesday night and look forward to catching up.

Am wondering if this is a first time restaurant you ate in or one of your trusted favorites that used the msg. Our favorite Pho Vietnamese restaurant is now using it and we don’t eat there any more. Always looking forward to hearing from you whenever you can. Going to town to use the internet weekly is a bummer.

The birds are probably happy about the slow internet because it means they get to see the results of your creativity in the garden. It must be intriguing for them.
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
oh yes.. as you know, the birds like to come check out what’s new, and they usually glean a few morsels of insects from overturned or trimmed objects…

This post make me realise how I am forgetting the fun playing with hands on art.
I have become addicted to the digital instant art of camera and computer.
One thing though I still have the birds.
Canberra is a magic place for birds.
I have made a whole heap of new bird friends here.
Birds seem to trust me and eat out of my hand.
I only feed them suitable food and not a lot I do not want them to get dependant on me. _/\_

we have only so many hours in each day, and i am sure that you squeeze the most from each one. even if you’re gardening or cooking, you’re creating!

Love what you are doing to the gate Z and garden area – your creative eye always sees the possibilities, love the thatch roof. I had to un-follow and re-follow, your posts haven’t been going into my reader. This is very frustrating and a waste of time, but surely I can’t handle this little inconvenience when I consider what you have to do to get a connection. Have a lovely mini-vacation at the hostal.

Your Time Out for Art posts are so whimsical. I love them. I don’t blame you for not wanting to draw attention to the house. But, you have a creative and fun way of expressing yourself on that ugly wall of yours. You are quite the selfsufficient handywoman. 🙂

The photos are marvelous! And I have one for you.
A friend and I made a little day trip down the coast on Sunday, and I found this wonderful “Z” boat hauled out. Looks like a bottom job may be in the offing. I’m sending a small file because of your internet, but if you ever want a large file for any reason, or different views, I’ve got them and they’re yours. Who knows what good use you could put them to?
