Numerous spam comments on images are slipping through the filters this week. Is anyone else finding an inbox full of wannabe comments in moderation?
All’s fine here in William Faulkner and Elvis country! Will be back soon with the Timeout for Art!
Z
I have quite some spam comments, as usually, but they land usually under Spam.
yes, i checked the spam folder for possible misplaced ‘good’ comments, and all was ok, but there are lots of spam comments that have been netted.. others are finding sly ways to swim into the moderation status!
thanks for your feedback!
YEah more and more are coming through, and they are the ones that are normally caught. I think WordPress’ sidekick, Akismet, aren’t doing their jobs properly. There again, that is WordPress all over at the moment.
yes, you are right.. lots are finding their way through, usually attached to image file-comments…
i keep thinking that wp/akismet will catch on and start netting them!
thanks so much! how’s the weather over there, btw?
It’s taken an upward turn again, It’s currently 23°C / 73°F
Yeah I found it is more image ones of late. I did have a comment the other day and I contemplated moving it to spam because it was on a post from last year. It turned out to be a legitimate question
last month i received two awol comments/pingbacks that were a year late in reaching the inbox! i wondered if they might have seen my lost socks! z
Haha it may well have been
Last week I had spam getting through the filters. Now the filters seem to be working but the spam numbers are up markedly. Some weeks back, the spam was down to about 2 or 3 messages a day which was remarkable. Ah, the mysteries of spam!
yes, they are ‘run-on’ sentences attached to an image file/page most of the time. there are several images in particular that seem to be the trigger! thanks for your feedback!
I have one post that is being spammed relentlessly and it makes me sad because it is a remembrance post for WW1 soldiers. 😦
Lots of new spamming here, to. Not sure whats going on, but its a pain to deal with.
Hope your vacation is going great!
yes, the filters catch a lot but there are a lot of comments slipping through.
yes, all is going well. i have taken too many photos so am now wading through them! z
Haven’t posted in a little while so no spamming for me, thankfully. Sorry you have to deal with it. LOVE the totem!
hey! thanks for your feedback.. the spam comments are coming in on old images – line one pencil drawing in particular – and some old posts… i suspect it is one person changing the contact info and sending run-on sentences and such.
hopefully the spam filters will start working better, though there are lots of otehr comments there…
Me too! And with old photos!!!
they keep rolling in, some only minutes apart.. maybe it’s akismet reminding us to note how many are actually caught in the filters!!!!
thanks for the feedback – i wrote them about ten minutes ago!
I got hacked with my email, the one I use for my blog, and I think it was someone that got my email here on the blog. Also, they did change wordpress recently so maybe that had something to do with it. What a beautiful photo, like that owl.
it’s so discouraging when people do mean things, and hacking into accounts and leaving trails of spam is not a very nice gesture. i am so sorry that they picked on you!
Got one that should have gone to spam. I’m hoping that’s all there is. Glitches scare me. 😦
hey amiga
too bad i can’t zoom over and say hi via magic carpet.. all is going well here in north mississippi!
Wish you could! Starting to chill up here in Jersey. Breaking out the three quarter sleeves and edging into the long. Blah!
Yes, I’ve found a few…
thanks for your feedback, and i hope that the spam blockers figure out a way to catch these pests!
I can’t quite describe them, but I had a week’s worth of strange spam comments – maybe five or six a day. Now, they seem to be gone, and I haven’t had a single spammer for at least three days. (Shhhhhh…. don’t tell, or they’ll be back!)
ha, you are funny, and i won’t awaken the little monsters!
thanks, and you are here in spirit as i tip-toe through faulkner country!
I’ve always wondered why spammers would think that anyone taking the time to create and write a blog would be interested in any of their way off-topic spam.
they are bothersome little pesks, aren’t they? sort of like a horse trying to swat away a horsefly on the hindquarters! z
Z, the spammers have gotten smarter usinig personal sites to reach out and bypass spam filters. On a related note, John Oliver was commenting on companies marketing on Twitter in very inappropriate ways. His best, funniest analogy was “it is like Tony Tiger breaking into a conversation circle at a cocktail party and saying “They’re great” and then ask what are you talking about.”
How is your trip going? BTG
si… an d linkedin has changed as well.. i’m not so crazy about them announcing any tiny change that is made or if one connects to someone.. it’s not about being social in my z opinion! thanks! oh, and so far no plans to go through carolina.. my flight came through houston… z
My loss. Judy of Raising the Curtain from Australia is visiting the states soon and she will be in Tennessee, so we are meeting half way. If you do not follow her blog, you would enjoy it. Have a great trip. BTG
Always getting spam – actually need to clear out my spam holder.
I’ve had a few. But when I think to look at what’s stored in the auto spam box, I’m stunned by how much the spam filter actually catches.
you are so right.. it’s amazing how many they catch, and it’s also amazing how many are trying to ‘swim upstream’ and find a way past those filters!
thanks amiga!

Yes I am finding followers in the Spam box and Spam in my Pending box… :-(.. Gremlins are around in WP this last few weeks…
your comment made me smile.. the first part could be woven into a country and western song!!! i hope that those gremlins go somewhere else – anywhere else!
here’s a thread: http://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/sneaky-spam-comments-reaching-inbox?replies=9#post-2057927#postform
Thank you for the thread.. 🙂
Z, I had another one yesterday. It was a very nice, but generic and off subject story. When I clicked it was a business looking to market product. Very savvy. BTG
yes, they are getting quite tricky… i wonder what positive things they might be capable of doing if they stop picking on others! z
I get a lot more than I used to. It’s not a lot, but 1or 2 seem to slip by each week.
Great totem detail. Made me smile. And, yes, I have lately had a lot of spam. For some reasons they mostly come with Chinese characters. At least I don’t have to bother about reading them…
hey from mississippi!
thanks; the spammers are getting more clever and leave chatty comments that trick the filters. there is one image file that keeps getting about a dozen a day – i should de-activate comments on that image and probably others.
harvest is in full swing here.. dry climate, dust in the air, and amazing light at the end of each day.. and my dance card stays full with visiting and it’s hard to break away for photos!
