Thinking of all of you that are affected by Otto’s late-November surprise.
When I scan maps of Central America, I always spot that large Lake Nicaragua- Cocibolca (Ometepe is home to Debbie and Ron, who – ironically- were in New Zealand and experienced the recent 7.8 earthquake…) Then I look due south to find the Nicoya Penisula where many of my friends live…. and now due east to Barra Colorado on the north-east border with Nicaragua, where my friend Dan has Rio Colorado Lodge. Hang in there everyone… Many will be watching from afar.
Kris out of Panama posted an update on weather in the David area. ‘Otto is Soaking Us”
(To anyone with internet there, updates are appreciated…)
Lessons to all: Keep your homes well stocked – disasters seem to be surprising people world wide….
Love,
Z
Dan is going to have to hunker down!
He will have even more stories to share at his round table… Having Camille and Katrina and other storms to prep him, he will be more prepared than most.
I cannot imagine what it will be like there…
How are things at your place? Is the volcano being on best behavior?
Do you stil have power? You’ll probably be out looking at birds first thing to see what/how the weather is affecting the migratory patterns…. there was a new post on wunderground just now by someone from the Osa area who had walked 16k…

As always love your posts Lisa. Hope you are well. Mike had a tree down at the Butterfly Farm, and Bill and Pat had some trees down…apparently lots of wind the last few days because of Otto…
We have four inches of snow here in Divide, Colorado so far this morning and it continues to snow…my cowboy got in the car to drive two and a half hours to the airport to bring our friend back for Thanksgiving…hoping the roads are ok.
Thanks for the update, and hopefully those bad rainy-season years will have prepped everyone well. People in small communities step forward if one needs help – or if the entire area needs help. They’ll do fine but will surely be glad when the sun is smiling on them again.
I hope that Cowboy Mundo made it to the airport and back without any wild stories about the trip!
It was predicted, though many of us chose to deny the predictions — including the president-elect who insists it is a Chinese plot to destroy American capitalism!
I meet many foreigners who express their dismay about the elections – and what they describe as the typical ‘American’ — unfortunately it’s a bit like how Mississippi was often ‘linked’ to icons of the KKK, and now the entire country is associated with people who make poor choices….
Thanks for focusing our attention on how cruel mother nature can be to those who can least stand up to it. Best wishes to all, Lisa. Keith
Thanks, Keith, and it looks like there’s a nasty storm going thru the USA – or several… I need to check those and see if it’s actual or predicted for the next few days…
Do you think that Mother Earth is really angry and is doing all she can to bring attention to her disgust of how we’re desecrating her land, rivers, lakes- oceans and air?
I don’t know whether to laugh or cry. We felt the 7.8 earthquake when we were on the North Island in New Zealand. Yesterday we flew to the South Island. We were watchng the news about last week’s earthquake because we are now in Christchurch near the earthquake area…and we had a 5.8 earthquake. Lots of shaking going on.
And I worry about our housesitters on Ometepe Island. They are battening down the hatches. What a November it has been.
Christchurch has somewhat recovered and built back better/stronger, so hopefully the impacts there will not be so frightening… As for Ometepe, I am sure that your kind neighbors will do all that’s possible to help your housesitters and be sure they are ok.. if anything arises, they will be there to help as well…
I will be watching the storm, as are you and Ron, and I hope it veers away from the Lake.. it’s scary for sure, and you must feel very torn watching from afar.
My good friends were in Canada when the earthquake hit, and they had a house sitter as well. It was hard for them to be so far away and depending on others for updates, etc.
Sending you strong energy..
Love
Lisa
Lisa, one of the best sites I follow is Mark Sudduth’s Hurricane Track. You might give it a look and see if you find it useful. He’s dedicated to non-hyped weather, which is a plus, and he knows his science.
Thank you Linda! I remember seeing your intelligent feedback on the “old ” Wunderground when it had a different vibe, and it’s good to know the site you now use… Heading there now… Thank you so much!
Given the changes in the climate worldwide, we all must be prepared. I know we are here in So. California.
