Incubating – Croaking Ground Dove
“You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don’t know what was in the newspapers this morning, you don’t know who your friends are, you don’t know what you owe anybody, you don’t know what anybody owes you. This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth, what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation….” — Joseph Campbell
Ecuador – Every so often someone offers a mirror, and we see ourselves through another’s eyes. That happened this week via Dennis Koenig aka Balsamean’s blog. Thank you again, Dennis, for an exceptionally-written ‘About the Artist’ review; I remain humbled.
Here’s his post
NATURE WRITERS I FOLLOW – ZEEBRA
“Is that ME he’s talking about?”
His kind words inspired me to finish organizing words and images on an incubating website that showcases my art.

Fledgling’s first flight!
‘There was an ole artist who lived in a canoe… she had so many paintings, she didn’t know what to do!’ Pencil, Museum Studies, Flora, Fauna, Whimsical, Contemporary, Hand-painted Floors – it will take a while to lasso the offspring and tweak their placement in this eclectic family tree of art!
The ‘Portfolio’ site starts HERE: SKETCHBOOK NOTES
This week’s art is still growing, but a new member of the family tree is ready for a pre-party viewing. Meet “Abuelito” Grandfather Ceibo:

Grandfather Ceibo 27″ x 38″ – Acrylic in progress
You’re invited to go on a cyber birding tour in the wetlands; be sure your mud boots are handy. We’ll be leaving soon in a magic canoe!

Quick! Name that bird!

Better pack a fieldbook as well!
Let me know if you’d like to be picked up in the magic canoe! Z
this is such a treat! I love getting your posts always bring a smile to my face and happy memories of you in my mind…and heart.
The email server went down right after the post was published, and it stayed down til late morning…there was no notification of the post in my yahoo inbox.. but your sweet comment was on the post. Thank you Gwen
Love dipping my toes into thoughts from Joseph Campbell. Yours photos
add the perfect touch to round out a piece of inward and outward stimulation.
happy and peaceful days to you Lisa
Sorry it took so long to reply; thank you, and stay tuned for the canoe ride in a few days!
Loved the birds, loved the sketches, especially since I am FINALLY starting to learn to draw. The link to Nature Writrs would not open for me, though.
Hi Emilie, and congratulations in sticking with your desires to conquer the challenges of drawing. Practice practice practice!
Thanks for the ‘link not working.’ That”s been happening a lot.. It’s there, and then it’s not… same with email notifications not being sent… not only from my blog, but from many other sites, which show up i the reader but aren’t delivered via email…
See below, Lisa.
Sorry that link did not work, Emilie. Lisa has set up correctly. I’ve tried clicking it while logged in and logged out of WordPress, and it works in my perhaps somehow favored place in the web. Perhaps try it again later, or maybe clear your browser cache? (That’s what they all say when you call tech support … the infamous cache.) And, see if it works here: https://thebalsamean.com/2017/05/27/nature-writers-i-follow-zeebra/
Thanks for playing shortstop!
I get a reply that says this: Safari can not open the page because it is a local file.
What in the world is a local file??? Thank you for trying.
Thank you for sticking with it!
I have no idea who writes those ‘canned messages’ – same as when the internet is slow and it says, ‘such and such site took long to respond.’ — or ‘you must be connected to the internet..’ grrrrrrr.
I figured it out. When I copied, I missed the //. It is all in the details!
You did a lovely job highlighting Lisa’s work. I love each and every post of hers, even the ones that talked bat the disappearance of the coast because of rising sea waters, though it horrified me at the same time. It is happening here in the US, too. Louisiana is losing our one football field of land a day.
Thank you Emilie, and you’ve always been a very kind and thoughtful supporter of my work. You are surely an empath, as you have sensitive concerns not only about your fellow man but also nature.
I looked at some of the dry forest here via Google maps and was shocked to see so much deforestation. I understand why Mother Earth is in a bad mood….
“You’re invited to go on a cyber birding tour in the wetlands; be sure your mud boots are handy. We’ll be leaving soon in a magic canoe!”
I’ll just assume that barefoot is okay while paddling the canoe.
You are right! That’s probably proper canoe etiquette!
Nice BLOG!!! ADD my blog too!!! Kisses ❤ ❤ ❤
Nice Comment! Thank you!
Comment my photo!!! Kisses ❤ ❤ ❤
Yes please send the magic canoe to Minneapolis! I would love to hop on!
Yes, yes! Will be happy to swoop down and pick you up!
Are those teal in the last photo? I can’t imagine you have teal in Ecuador — but maybe you do!
Yes, the blue-winged teal are in that photo. Listed are the Andean teal, Blue-Winged Teal, Cinnamon Teal… The coast has a lovely White-cheeked Pintail.
I got lost in your gorgeous paintings on your website! So beautiful.
Alison
Your comment gave me a very special smile! It reminded me of Peter Gabriel’s ‘In your Eyes’ You might enjoy this version!

Hey Lisa, I love that quote by Joseph Campbell, and I just adore your tree. As a kid growing up on a farm I loved climbing trees, and that tree of yours just demands to be climbed and explored! 🙂
Oh yes, trees like that one are the best for climbing! I was just thinking about climbing a big tree for photos – up high and looking down.. for a painting of an iguana sprawled along a big branch.. and I thought, ‘the people in town would think I’d lost my mind!’
the trees have thorns on the trunk and on some limbs… I’d have to find the right tree!
You must get a ‘looking down’ shot Lisa! It really would make a terrific painting. Not sure how you’ll get your paints up the tree though! 😁
Ha! I was looking at images of iguanas basking on the ground or on rocks by the river, or else shots looking skyward… but thought, oh yes, put the viewer IN THE TREE and transport them back to childhood!
Thanks for your encouragement!
Get up that tree! And no ladders allowed cus that would be cheating! 😂
I think I’ll send the magic carpet – or the magic canoe to come get you, as I need a partner in this mischief! One to boost the other up that big fat tree!
I’ll be the booster!!! 🙃 🌲🌳🌴🌵
‘big fat and prickly tree!’
🌵🌵🌵😁
The Campbell quote is wonderful, and I have to say….”Croaking Ground Dove?” Too funny – a silly name to go with a silly look, and I imagine, a funny call. I’d love to take a canoe ride with you…
It really does croak – quite a throaty and funny sound!
Your place is reserved in the Magic Canoe!
