Red as cranberries, the beets give the above ‘drink’ an eye-popping color. The carrots add to the sweetness. But how does it taste?
“It tastes like green things,” my friend Dady said last year when she sampled the beet-carrot-apple-orange drink at Hostal Palo Santo. Every time I make a similar drink, I recall her words – and everyone’s laughter – as she politely drank the raspberry-colored juice.
The Blue Porterweed is an edible plant of interest and has promising medicinal properties. Eat-the-Weeds.com
The past few weeks have been busy, and the next few months will be even busier, but I wanted to share that little chuckle and hope that you in the USA have a nice holiday weekend.

Love that eye-popping colour and could imagine the ‘earthy taste’ which the beetroot would add. The blueness of the porterweed makes a sumptuous contrast. I like to make ‘beetroot latte’ – baked beetroot blitzed with orange juice and steamed frothy milk 🙂

It sounds pretty—pretty awful! Your friend was kind to refer to it as “green things”. But as the saying goes–don’t knock it till you try it.

Oh, you have a marvelous way to celebrate colour, my dear friend. As I look out my window and see autumn paint the sky and trees, I am grateful that colour brings us together across the miles. Hugs coming your way.

“Green things”… so funny! Have a good time and take care. Busy is not bad as long as it doesn’t turn our stressful. Lots of love your way, Lisa 💖

Is that lantana decorating the table in your first photo? And a fritillary sipping some nectar? I’ll let others have my drink, while I drink in the beauty of the flowers and creatures. Truly — I can eat a pickled beet, and there’s nothing wrong with borscht, but the thought of beets in a drink is a blender too far!
We’re having lovely rain, but keeping a close eye on the tropical system that’s heading for the central Gulf coast. It is September, after all — time for paying attention!

Lisa, there’s an announcement here in what I’m assuming is Portuguese and English regarding a way to help after the terrible fire at Brazil’s National Museum in Rio de Janeiro. I thought there might be people you’d want to pass the information on to.

Green things can sometimes taste really great—particularly when they are not green. This pureed beets, carrots, guayusa-stevia tea and lemon juice looks heavenly. May you business be pleasant!

I won’t join the squirrel in nibbling grass but I am happy to try the beet drink. I make a lovely beetroot, orange, and carrot salad, so I know the flavour combination is great.
