Whooping Motmot y festive holiday colors!
At the midnight hour on December 24th, many people in Ecuador pause during their late-night meal and raise a toast to Baby Jesus, then they exchange greetings with everyone in the room. Then they return to their seats and resume their meal!
The rains continue, and for that we are grateful here on the western side of Ecuador. For holiday cuisine, the Ecuadorian Trogons and Whooping Motmots might dine on festive red tomatoes. They’re quite thoughtful neighbors, as they leave plenty for the resident artist!

What’s on your holiday menu?

Happy Holidays, and be careful if you’re traveling!
Peace, love, and happiness to you along with enough income to be comfortable.
Feliz Navidad, Lisa. ❤️ 2018 has not been a good year for us, but we are hopeful 2019 will be better. Sending you love and peace.
I can’t believe they are still eating at midnight!! I’ve been in bed for three hours by that time!! Happy Christmas, my friend.
I’m with Hugh….midnight meals would keep me up all night! Ha!! My best wishes for you, your family and your cherished family of friends. Felix Navidad
May your heart be filled with peace.
Much love,
Alison xo
Merry Christmas Lisa. May 2019 be filled with love and laughter.
That is so funny – because this morning after I let the chickens out of their coop I sat and watched a motmot snatch and break open berries from a palm tree in our neighbor’s yard. Today we are smoking a turkey and will eat that along with portions of a ham Mary soaked in brine and herbs and we smoked the other day. Life is so good, but it is made even better associating with good friends like you! Merry Christmas, Lisa!
Merry Christmas darlin! Fed and watered and in lovely company 🎅🎁🍸🍰💕
Ah Lisa it has been awhile, eh? The last three months edmund has been busy here at our NC homestead. that rude girl, Hurricane Florence took her toll on our home…leaving us with out a first floor for the last two and half months…and for the last few weeks edmund has been replacing it…we had to have emergency services out to take out the old wood floor…so wet and molded and the sub floor and then clean it like crazy and treat it and dry it and heat it…and then Edmund was allowed to work his magic…he loves projects as you well know. Now he is making a butcher block counter top for our island in the kitchen…the other counter tops come in January so we will finally be completely into our home again…after a three month hiatus…
life has been different!
Feliz Navidad…we are having a quiet christmas…we had neighbors in for breakfast…fixed in our apt above the garage where we have a working tho small kitchen…grateful for small favors and then we brought it over to the house in the dining room and had a sweet merry breakfast…complete with mimosas…:)
and then we are going to another neighbors for dinner tonight…then off to Charleston…so Ed can see his girls and their kids…and play PopPop for a few days.
As always I love your pictures and your life perspective.
mucho besos mi amiga.

In the words of Dickens spoken by Tiny Tim: GOD BLESS US EVERY ONE.
That first pic is gorgeous! I don’t know how you do it. Hope you are having a wonderful Christmas with our friends. I know there won’t be a shortage of good food or good company. Wish I was there with you all! Holiday hugs dear friend ! 🙂
Roast beast and Who hash, that’s what we had for Christmas dinner. We found the Grinch, convinced him to share, and then invited him to the party. It’s amazing how much of a softie the grinches of the world can turn out to be if only they’re given a chance! Feliz Navidad, Lisa, and every good wish for the coming year.
Peace to you and your birds Lisa, how considerate of them to share your tomatoes, they look an abundant crop. Wishing you all the best for 2019
Rain there and rain here, as if a few thousand miles made no difference.
Oops, not sure how this comment went where it did. Must’ve been the rain.
Thank you for the wonderful conversations in 2018. Looking forward to the many more in 2019. You are a gift to our world. Hugs
Lisa, I hope you had a festive Christmas. We had a delightful family Christmas. We decided to do an Italian meal this year, which went over well. Have a terrific New Year’s. Keith

Skiing was on my holiday menu. The weather cooperated with enough snow to ski both days. And I’m going out again today. I’m a happy camper.
Wishing you a productive and fun-filled 2019.
Hi Lisa, I tend to binge read your posts these days and always enjoy them. Is it a general thing in Ecuador that the birds are always beautiful? Happy Holidays.. as they say to cover all tastes.
What a beautiful bird! A Very Happy and Prosperous 2019 to you in the beautiful land of Ecuador.
We had some wonderful little tomatoes in our salad last night….I hope your holiday menu included plenty of sweet smiles, Lisa.
