Incubating – Croaking Ground Dove

“You must have a room, or a certain hour or so a day, where you don’t know what was in the newspapers this morning, you don’t know who your friends are, you don’t know what you owe anybody, you don’t know what anybody owes you. This is a place where you can simply experience and bring forth, what you are and what you might be. This is the place of creative incubation….” — Joseph Campbell

Ecuador – Every so often someone offers a mirror, and we see ourselves through another’s eyes. That happened this week via Dennis Koenig aka Balsamean’s  blog.   Thank you again, Dennis, for an exceptionally-written ‘About the Artist’ review; I remain humbled.

Here’s his post

NATURE WRITERS I FOLLOW – ZEEBRA

“Is that ME he’s talking about?”

His kind words inspired me to finish organizing words and images on an incubating website that showcases my art.

Fledgling’s first flight!

‘There was an ole artist who lived in a canoe… she had so many paintings, she didn’t know what to do!’    Pencil, Museum Studies, Flora, Fauna, Whimsical, Contemporary, Hand-painted Floors –  it will take a while to lasso the offspring and tweak their placement in this eclectic family tree of art!

The ‘Portfolio’ site starts HERE: SKETCHBOOK NOTES

This week’s art is still growing, but a new member of the family tree is ready for a pre-party viewing.  Meet “Abuelito” Grandfather Ceibo: Continue reading →

Pencil (Continued from earlier post)

Pencil (Continued from earlier post)

All that you need is deep within you waiting to unfold and reveal itself. All you have to do is be still and take time to seek for what is within and you will surely find it. ~Eileen Caddy

I am writing from La Division, where I hoped to get away from smoke that’s been wafting ‘downwind’ from some sort of burn pile. The smoke seems to have followed me here! I was also hoping for a stronger internet signal. I was not planning to have many distractions, but they are here as the old battery runs down while the upload functions and pages fail to load!

Perdon for this hurried post!  The quote is quite ironic for a day when I was unable to be still in order to publish this post!    Two of four images loaded, and I am going to call that ‘a good day.’  The battery is now at critical —- some days it’s best to stay home and draw!

How Does One Spell Mud?!!!!

How Does One Spell Mud?!!!!  When walking to town in THIS, I briefly wondered if I was on the right track!

After six months of extreme dry weather, typical of this dry rain-forest climate, the clouds turned on their taps and kicked off the new year with slow gentle rain.   And more rain.  And more rain.   And more rain.

Friends from Colorado are in town to check on their home that’s under construction in the area.   I’ve upgraded from a life ankle deep in mud on the river to a short stay at a cute hostal while they are here.    (The photo above shows the road between my house and town.)   All’s fine here, though the internet has been painfully slow.  I have had problems sending emails, commenting on other posts or replying to WordPress comments. Frizztext’s first two alphabet challenges for 2013 are for the letters A and B. When possible, I plan to use Spanish words!

You might remember that I have my very own personal welcome wagon when I pass through the outskirts of town!  Even if I am in a hurry, I always stop and bask in her gentle nature!  (See Children & Their Gifts)

She makes me feel like royalty!

This past week when Maria dashed out to greet me, I thought, “If I’m going to stop and talk with her, we might as well have a lesson in English!”

Fashionably behind on Frizztext’s story challenges, I scanned my old posts and wondered how to catch up on the letters R, S and T.

One early post reflects a two for one for the letters S & T!  I am magically transported back to a Carl-Sagan night when I view images taken from Hank and Marie Groff’s home in Costa Rica.   We gawked skyward in awe as the moon changed moods from hour to hour.      The Solstice Eclipse pairs the eclipse images with qutoes from Thoreau.

Would YOU want to leave this view?

After a full day of brushing and rolling ‘Agua Stop” on the outside of the house, I came inside at dark. Juan and Francisco had left an hour earlier, and I enjoyed the quiet rhythm of painting in blissful silence until darkness demanded that I stop!  Wow, what a long day, but the house looks so much happier! It’s amazing how a fresh coat of paint all but makes an old structure smile, and then the smile dominoes in other directions as well!

The men worked inside while I painted the outside walls!

Tired, I settled in for the evening and logged onto the internet to find a happiness domino patiently awaiting in the form of a pingback! Continue reading →

Typical fleeting moment while travelling between Charapoto and Cruzita Ecuador.

(ECUADOR)  Yesterday I journeyed from Cruzita to Portoviejo for a final visit to the museum before next week’s opening reception of The Mola Series.   Armed with WordPress’s newest photo challenge, I stepped onto the bus with anticipation of the many fleeting moments that were about cross my visual path.  With camera in hand, I was ready to capture the photo opportunities that raced past my window! A friend says that he loves my stories, but it's a shame that I'm in an institution in Mississippi and making this all up!
