With sudden alertness, Celeste snapped out of her dream, though she did not remember going to sleep. She opened her eyes and stared at the built-in bookcase near the bed.
“I don’t have a bookcase…” – from scribblings

I’ve never seen this view or this glass-topped table for two…
There’s a magical arch sculpted through a red-hibiscus hedge….

Hmmm; this big-footed bird forages along the lake… but what lake? Do you know this bird?

Is this duckweed? I remember duckweed from Mississippi…

“Toto, I don’t think I’m in Mississippi…”
Does anyone know where I am/was? Hint This is Ecuador….
As you can see, it’s beautiful here! I continue to be online very little – will be back soon…

I am guessing, “Pozo Honda” a wide spot on the Portoviejo river, but we had a little insider information. In any event, it is really beautiful up there and it is almost unbelievable that so close to Portoviejo the flora could be so different from the drier hills twenty miles to the west. Ecuador has so many unique and beautiful micro-climates and diversity making it such a joy to live here.
It is really really beautiful up there.
Will be writing more, just not sure when!
Well I would say that it is a deep lake. In Spanish it would be Lago Honda… no no.. Poza Honda? Near Puerto Viejo??? Looks nice.
Nice guess, Stephen! You would like the area a lot, and I suspect you’ll be going there with frog-light and boots to see what’s hiding in the water hyacinths and duck weed!
I know, I was just there. It is central Nebraska!
Ha! Goodness, I can’t fool you! Hope your day is going well. Love, Z
I sure don’t know where you are but I think that’s a Gallinule of some kind, and I have to tell you – I read today that one was found (dead, unfortunately) on Baffin Island recently! And they’ve found a few in Iceland! Strange thought, eh? 🙂 Looks like a pretty place and I hope you’re relaxing!
I believe you are right! Another name is Moorhen and according to our big book, “Ridgely and Greenfield” there are several species here in Ecuador. Good find!
The area has the ‘Common Gallinule’ and the “Purple Gallinule,” but this bird is not a gallinule! 🙂
Wow, I think of Gallinules as NeoTropical or warm-weathered birds… With the changes on currents, weather patterns, melting arctic waters, that makes sense.. I listened to a Ted Talk recently about the melting Arctic and the changes on sound beneath the ice, and how the melting ice is affecting whales and other species….
The bird in this image is not a gallinule, though its feet are certainly like a gallinule’s… It’s range is starting to increase, and now it’s found from South America and up into Panama, and I think a bit into Costa Rica… Will wait to share the answer a bit later to see if anyone gets it!
Interesting…
I am so glad when you internet connection is available. Always a joy to see your photos and picture myself int them – especially the pathways!!
Ah, yes, that arch sets the stage for a calming visit to the house. It would have been nice to have you explore that area; the magic carpet needs some repairs, but maybe one day it will fly again, and we can take another full-moon checkout ride!
I am ready whenever that time comes, my dear friend!!!
Somewhere near Paradise. 🙂
Great guess! It definitely offers a peaceful solace for the wandering nomad!
Really like the whimsical feel of this post, Lisa. Lovely, still photos. The top one could almost be a view from the Scottish Highlands…
The Scottish Highlands, Colorado, even Guatemala — those mirror-like waters provide comfort around the globe… ah, such a balm in these roller-coaster days of world stress.
Thanks, Anne!
Beautiful Lisa! Curious to know!
Your family would love it there! Hope to post another soon – with answers to the above!
I had a friend that always said, ” You’re here because your not there.” You are definitely here and in the present moment. Gorgeous place.
Hey Amiga! Si, where-ever we are, that’s where we’re supposed to be! You two would love that area! Thanks!
Hey sis, just wanted to send you a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY, even though the 14th hasn’t arrived yet. Don’t know where you will be then nor do I know if I will be somewhere with internet access. So just wanted to send this now. Hope all is going well for you, wish I could hop a ship and come see you PERMANENTLY ! Nothing here for me. Maybe one of these days I’ll be able to come visit, though right now it’s not looking very likely. Love & Miss you, Have a GREAT BIRTHDAY wherever you might be then. LOVE, your sister Pat
Thank you thank you thank you, dear Pat! You’ve been on my mind a lot – it will be good to get a report on your new gps location!
New discoveries are such an exciting moment. May you always have them
A lovely little story Lisa – a mini fantasy! 🙂
OK, the answer to where are you is the second photo in my current post. 🙂
I’ll be interested to find out what the bird is – maybe in a later post…
Happy Belated Birthday!!!!!!!!!!!
OK, the answer to where are you is the second photo in my current post. 🙂 – That made me laugh! I’ve been away for three days – ah, so lovely, and I was back in that same area, where the Wattled Jacanas / scientifically known as Jacana Jacana, walk on a vast infestation of water hyacinths…
Am catching up now, and look forward to seeing the second photo in your post from three days ago!!!!
Beautiful story!
Thank you! I was back there this past week – it is lovely there!
You are welcome! How great for you!
