Maybe we should develop a Crayola bomb as our next secret weapon. A happiness weapon. A beauty bomb. And every time a crisis developed, we would launch one. It would explode high in the air – explode softly – and send thousands, millions, of little parachutes into the air. Floating down to earth – boxes of Crayolas. And we wouldn’t go cheap, either – not little boxes of eight. Boxes of sixty-four, with the sharpener built right in. With silver and gold and copper, magenta and peach and lime, amber and umber and all the rest. And people would smile and get a little funny look on their faces and cover the world with imagination. ~Robert Fulghum
We all rejoice in watching children opening presents with wild abandon, and today while basking in whatever way you’re spending Christmas, glimpse your surroundings as if first seeing them as a child. I’ll be watching the ocean’s waves as they rip along the shoreline at dawn. Wouldn’t it be fun if all beaches and lakesides were littered with crayolas today instead of remnants of man’s discarded plastics?
All children (and young-at-heart adults) should be reminded to watch the shadows as they change throughout the year. High noon is an easy time to experiment with shadows; I enjoyed photographing these shadows with props that were close at hand!
The abandoned chairs are a bit happier, but they are patiently awaiting more attention. Here’s the progress:
The malinche (royal poinciana) trees exploded into bloom this week, in honor of the festive season.
So would you like to see a few more images of King Kong? Rycardo Alcivar built an equally-stunning sculpture last year; See End Of Year Customs.
One hour from daylight, I am sitting on the balcony of my friends’ home as the surf approaches high ebb. At times the waves thunder, and the foundation trembles as if Poseiden’s trident just speared the sand bags. Most likely he’ll inspect the line of bags to be sure they’re intact, then he’ll retreat and sleep for the rest of the day.
Thanks, everyone from around the world for your support throughout the year! Love, Z

Z, happy holiday my friend. The Malinche tree is so beautiful, as is everything else. Your Crayola bomb idea is a not a bad idea at all. I saw a report from the German reporter who spent 10 days interviewing ISIS in two cities. It was noted the kids in the captured cities where not permitted to use colors in drawing. So, maybe we could air drop a Crayola bomb with paper in tow. Thanks for your color ambassadorship. BTG
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
that is horrible = not letting children use colors, but it makes sense how that can control the psyche… wouldn’t it be wonderful to drop colors iand paper into their hands?
yes, the malinche tree is beautiful when it flames in color!
thanks for your support, and may you have a wonderful new year! z

Merry Christmas, Lisa, and all good wishes to you. I’ve been thinking of you, with the high tides approaching, and hoping for the best. Happy holidays!
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
thanks, cindy! i’m still at the be3ach, and the ocean is way too close, but it’s been on good behavior and stayed on its side of the sand bags. high tide was several hours ago, but it still sounds way too close to my friends’ home. the waves seem to slap the shore and at times the house shakes a little.. such a reminder of how close it is.
all should be fine until full moon time, which is not far away.
i hope that you have a wonderful new year! z

Crayola crayons go back to grammar school with me. My teacher would always call them “crayolas,” assuming that all of her class knew what she was saying to us. Yes. “crayolas” should be our weapon of offense and defense. Thanks for you the things that you write, and think, about the world that surrounds you, and the rest of us. Please have a Merry Christmas.
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
thank you.. yes, crayolas take us back to times when life was simple… i wish we could roll back to those times again, though at times i live them here in ecuador.
Equipping The Saints said:
I’m sure that the life in Ecuador is very simply. Can you tell me what it was that took you there?
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
simple answer: ‘less is more…’
it reminds me of the life we’ve basically lost in the usa, where there are more people who get around via walking or bicycle (and sometimes burros!) and then there’s the ‘upgrade’ to motorcycles and of course cars and trucks… but at least half of the people are witout motorized transportation.. we take the bus for about a dollar per hour fare.. food is cheap – i can buy two bags of vegetables for about five dollars – that’s tomatoes, onions, potatoes (origin is the andes, and they are wholesome) and corn – non gmo and very original as well.. broccoli, cauliflower, swiss chard, spinach, green peas, field peas/cow peas, lima beans and then vegetables one doesn’t see elsewhere… fresh coconut water, so healthy… it’s a small town where the children roam the streets without fear of being run over or kidnapped…
here’s a post from last year about a traditional christmas here in town:
battery low, signing off…z

Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
that is SO GREAT that you hve the posters smiling at you now! yes, rycardo is very very talented…
the ocean stayed on good behavior, and all is ok for another two weeks…. the full moon will watch over us watching over the tides again…
the news from your area looks like tempers are festering and it’s getting a bit scary? when people start getting hurt re:protests… i hope there’s a solution and win win, but i don’t see how that can happen.
thinking of you and ron always..

Lovely inspirational post Lisa the idea of the Crayola bombs is great. So sad about the children of ISIS not being allowed the beauty of colour. That HUGE King Kong is just stupendous. What an amazing work of art. Pleased to hear the tides are behaving this time. All the best for 2015.

What a glorious tree, Lisa! 🙂 I had such a funny thought while reading through. Our plumbing’s a bit iffy sometimes and we keep a plunger round about the bathroom. It would be ideal for measuring the angle of the sun. I shall move it to the garden forthwith, and confuse the birds 🙂
Thank you for all the smiles and your joy in life. Happy 2015!
