Frizztext tosses his alphabet challenge each Tuesday. Pulling up from behind just under the wire with O for Olive Ridley, I am now slightly ahead with the prompt for P! The tagword of “Painting” trumped Pelicans, Portoviejo, Pacific Ocean, Peace March, Photo Challenge and PreColumbian Art for a chance for the spotlight!
From the archives comes an eclectic assortment of paintings from a handful of years! Rather than ramble on about my work, I’ll let the paintings take the stage!

Your work is just inspiring. I’ve never been good at the visual stuff, but might need to go shopping for some paint.

ha! that would be great! one of my favorite classes long ago was one of ‘retired’ men and women who confessed that they would like to learn to draw or paint but had no idea if they could! how great it was to witness their transformation! one student, doctor creekmore, had been a childhood peer of my mother’s, and he must have been in his 80’s when he started attending classes! with cane in hand and monocles to see closeup, he was my most intense (highly intelligent) student! he was often frustrated that he couldn’t paint like i did until i pointed out how soft and sensitive his drawings were. then he eased up on himself and weaned into some really nice work!

thank you! i suspect that when i am there next, we will have a huge variety of botanicals to use for subjects! i’m sort of craving to do some new ones, and i think i’ll start doing a small botanical every sunday. but this sunday i’m heading to quito.. hmm. might have to make exceptions, like on week one!

you are so welcome! i look forward to when i am back in nicaragua and will certainly come see you and spend some time there..i will return to the limon 1/2 area and also san juan del sur and rivas. this time i will also make that journey to ometepe (twist my arm!) — i’d like to go back to finca magdalina and study the petroglyphs again, and there are surely lots more all over the island that i’ve never seen! and there’s a certain new artist friend that i would love to meet in person!

all I can say is WOW! love your art…that headphone holder is amazing!
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
thank you! that moment happened during the rainy season, and i used the headphones when the rain on the tin roof was all but torture.. the headphones gave me total freedom from the noise. whenever i finished, i did not like placing them on the table, and i thought, ‘what can i use to hold them?…” i searched for the right sized coconut and thought, ít should have some eyes… and the rest just happened! it really did paint itself – it all flowed like a dream, and i am sure my time spent with the petroglyphs was responsible!
thanks so much, it’s too bad we live so far apart – we’d enjoy a great synergy of support between us!

Creative and diverse. I believe you can turn the ugliest wall, floor, etc., into a work of art.
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
i love the challenge of doing just that – whether is’s a garden or a floor or a forlorn house (with good bone structure!)
i love to start with the worst areas and turn them around and make them into the loveliest areas!
i suspect that you’re good at the same challenges…

I think it’s fun to jump in and see what I can do with a problem area. My mother was the queen of transforming an eyesore. She was from the era of “hand down, wear out, make do, do without” and could still do her magic. Just takes imagination and getting one’s hands dirty.

Would love to see some of your horse art work, I used to draw horses, badly, on everything when I was about 10 years old (that seems like a million years ago).I can emphasise with your class of “oldies”
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
yes, the oldies class was so much fun! what an eclectic mix of free spirits, and the conversations were priceless! they did great work as well!
i don’t think i have any samples of my horse art. when i was young, i was forever riding horses and competing in speed events. of course i drew horses horses horses!
maybe i can do something equine soon!
thanks!

Beautiful art work of Paintings. It looks so fun. I have tried, but I get bored easily with painting, especially if there are No numbers 🙂 I have really enjoyed this post 😉
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
ah! if you see a copy of ‘drawing on the right side of the brain’ or drawing.. artist within’ you should read it! betty edwards points out that you have to stick with it until the left brain gets bored and says, ‘i’m bored, i think i’ll go take a nap,’ and the right brain steps forward and takes control.
too bad i can’t give you a two-hour session.. it’s amazing to watch a willing students first two hours of progress. it’s like going from kindergarten to high school in a few easy leaps!

Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
thank you; i was in total right brain mode, and when i finished, i sat back and looked at it and thought, ‘where on earth did YOU come from?!”
unlike in costa rica, i don’t have coconuts at my fingertips, but i plan to retrieve some soon and do a few new ones. so many things to do with each day, and i always seem to run out of time. i painted outside until past dark today. (the facade of the house)

Believe it or not, my very favorite on this page is the rufous naped wren. It makes me smile – a lot.
I smiled at the reason for your headphone holder, too. I remember the rainy season in Liberia, and those tin roofs. We got about 170 inches of rain a year in six months – it could get loud, needless to say. Now, the issue is acorns on tin roofs up in the hill country! They can be quite a racket, too, especially when a good wind sets a good crop flying!
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
thanks! i’m glad you liked the wrens. i loved working on that study – those wrens were my back-yard neighbors, and all of the supporting cast was painted on site; the wrens flitted back and forth, so naturally i relied on reference photos. that species of wren has a particular call throughout the day that sounds like, ‘weird people live here, weird people live here,’ and i laugh and reply, ‘i know they do!’
we once had 50 inches or rain in three weeks one october in CR, and having those headphones did wonders for keeping my cool! they empowered me, and i found a pair with an extra-long cord that stretched from my computer/drawing table all the way to the kitchen or to my sleeping area.
it’s great to know that you’ve experienced that and understand! — acorns on the tin roof sounds like an amusing yet sometimes irritating noise!

I’m so glad I came here (although to be honest I don’t know how I came here I’m very confused about which of your blogs I follow… Me gusta mucho les pinturas. (I hope I haven’t butchered the beautiful language..) 😀
Playamart - Zeebra Designs said:
ja ja! i get confused sometimes too.. i first opened one account to comment on someone’s blog, then did nothing with it for months.. then i resumed to open a second one.. one for art and the other for my eclectic interests, nature and such… then the names/gravatars were mismatched – my mistake, so i tried to switch them and was asked if i was sure i wanted to do that… and then there was switching the main blog and i could do it once but not switch back (i think!).. i did not know what was right so i left it ‘bassackwards’ … one of these days i will get the courage to switch, but i’m afraid of losing my posts!!! if i switch, everyone will be confused again!
thanks! if you followed all of that, you get a gold star!
